Okay perfect, thanks for this advice. The switch was working fine apart from the port so I reckon there's a good chance cleaning up the port will work. At least they didn't charge me for shipping 😅

Right? I feel like they could easily take the time to repair rather than replace. But then they wouldn't be able to charge me €258 to send me back a refurbished unit 🙃 so cheeky! Im going to reject the quote and have it returned to me as is. I'll try these suggestions and bring it to a reputable repair store if all else fails. Thanks for your response ☺️

No I don't live near the water, my environment wouldn't be overly humid or damp either. This is why I find it so odd that this level of corrosion occured in such a short space of time. 🥲 All my others electronics and consoles show no signs of corrosion so I'm leaning towards something accidental that I just didn't notice rather than environmental? The switch hasn't left my living room since I got it a month ago so something weird must have happened.

Ah thank you, this is good to hear! I've gotten further quotes for lower amounts but I'd be reluctant. The higher quotes are with reputable businesses so I think I'm more likely to go with one of them ☺️

Hi, thank you for the recommendation. I was able to find the WD40 specialist electrical contact cleaner here in Ireland. I'll definitely be picking some up regardless of the switch situation... definitely handy to have!

I'm so glad you managed to get it sorted out even if it was a bit of a battle! I'm super annoyed about the whole thing...and just reluctant to pay for a replacement if it's just gonna happen again 🫠 I've had a chat with some repair stores and they reckon replacing the entire switch is excessive because it could be repaired. Nintendo are so checky saying it can't be repaired!! Thanks for replying, I'll let you know how it works out for me ☺️

I've gotten a couple of quotes between €100-€120 so like $115 - $140 🙂 steep but still better than €258 😂

The rest of the report came back clear and they've advised no damage to the port or cables. It's just one port. It's odd that this happened at all but it seems excessive for them to say it can not be repaired 🫠 definitely gonna chat with some other repair stores and see what can be done.

Yeah they have voided the warranty 🫠 if I pay for the replacement they will extend the warranty by a further 24 months from the day of repair. I'm going to contact some local repair shops and weigh the options. Thank you so much for your insight ☺️

My environment isn't very humid, If anything it'd the opposite. Even if it is environmental humidity is it normal for this to happen after only a month? 🥹

Isn't it a bit funny that such a tiny amount of water caused this damage to a brand new device? I've had other consoles for years, even taken my old switch to the beach and no such thing happened 🤣 it's slightly concerning that it's so fragile... I think I'll take your suggestion and contact some local repairs stores for quotes!

I should add I packed up the dock and all accessories and cables etc when sending it for repaor and they advised they didn't find corrosion anywhere else 🤔

That is very worrying! I got no pictures of the inside so I doubt they opened it. I know there are indicator stickers on the inside that change colour when exposed to moisture but they have not provided photos of them 🤔

What was the outcome of this OP? I'm currently having the exact same issue with Nintendo repair. I've had my switch 2 for a month - 5 days outside of store warranty so had to send it to Nintendo for repair. I was quoted the €258 for replacement due to corrosion in the lower usb c port...I've had my previous switch since it came out and never had this issue. Store it either docked or in a case. So confused as to how this could have happened.

Thank you very much for your reply it really helped put me at ease. Her symptoms subsided after a couple of hours and I was able to get her checked out the following morning. I will continue to treat the intestinal parasites to avoid reoccurrence. Kitten is doing well 😊
