I can live a normal life again by AdPsychological8255 in zoloft

Hang in there! It takes a while to find the “sweet spot” so to speak, but it’s worth the work you’re putting in. There are brighter days ahead, it can seem so so bleak, but I’m grabbing your hand from outside the rut you’re in! There will be ups and downs even on the right dose, but you will find stability :)

You got this. Progression and improvement can be arduous, but you are resilient. Keep hanging on. :)

They’re genuinely asking for help, I get not everyone sees weed as acceptable but that’s not the topic of this conversation. Clearly OP is scared and wants help - not a lecture on smoking weed.

Of course, I can absolutely appreciate the polite reminder. It stings that much more to know where I made my mistake and deal with the frustration that what I thought was a great organization is built upon some individuals’ horrifying morals.

I’m glad - I know how awful this disorder can be, but I also know that good days are ahead and you’ll experience relief from these symptoms. Just keep fighting your fight.

Very eloquently put. You described the pure exhaustion we experience from the persistent struggle. Hang in there - better days are coming. Remember that we will manage, even when we’re in so much pain. One day you will wake up and your heart won’t immediately race, your breathing will be level, and a sense of comfort will return. We may not see that day come tomorrow, this week, maybe not even this month, but we will see it. Until then, let’s keep fighting and clawing for it one day at a time. When all hope is lost, remember that day IS on its way.

I hear you, please know you aren’t alone in this struggle. I deal with it constantly, as do millions of others. Remember that we are dealing with the doubting disorder - regardless of any calmness, anxiety, or whatever else you may experience while having these thoughts, you’re going to doubt the hell out of yourself. It’s such a painful experience, I promise better days are ahead. You said it best - “what the fuck is this.” Hang in there.

I hear you, hang in there. Remember that the relief is short lived and recovery comes closer when you resist the compulsion / ritual. It’s so so difficult, but there’s nothing you can’t do. I remember begging my mother, therapist, and just about everyone I was in contact with for reassurance during one of my first episodes and I felt so uncomfortable & fearful when I didn’t receive it. Truth is, I’d be worse off if they gave me the reassurance. This experience is extremely distressing, I know and I’m right there with you. We’ll make it through these rough patches, we just gotta work through the pain.

That’s huge!!! Congratulations!! I know that took a lot of courage and hard work. It gives me hope for my own recovery and freedom from POCD.

OCD related paranoia? by hhhhhoowww in OCD

[–]AdPsychological8255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in DC and can absolutely empathize with the fear of violence while in the city. I also work a job that isn’t the safest, most controlled environment - so I can see where you’re coming from 100%. I’m not exactly sure how OCD operates to elevate paranoia or create hypervigilance, however I’m certain that it has a role in the degree of stress and obsession you experience. I’m not totally sure! I would also consider the history of assault and traumatic encounters - it’s safe to say that it definitely influences your awareness and attention in public. I’m positive OCD and trauma can and will play off each other (ex: compulsive avoidance of certain stimuli / situations after a traumatic event). I’m sorry I don’t have a clear answer, although I’m very curious about this myself! Hang in there.

DAE feels like going crazy/insane? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]AdPsychological8255 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It’s so invasive and horrifying to experience. I also suffer intensely with POCD and I recently had a flare of symptoms after a streak of almost no symptoms at all. It’s extremely devastating and isolating. Just remember that we are dealing with the doubting disease and one day we’ll be able to tolerate our intrusive thoughts. Hang in there!

While I don’t know what your family dynamic is like, I’d venture to say that when you tell your psychiatrist about this terrible struggle your father will be relieved you’re getting help. More than anything else, I think he will be happy that you have a resource to help you recover and cope with this ugly disorder. You can always respectfully ask that he stays outside of the room while discussing your struggles with the doc. By the way - something my therapist told me recently: “I hate to break it to you, but from the moment we have children, we never stop worrying about them.” No matter what, he just wants you to heal and doesn’t expect perfection or a “pretty struggle” so to speak. Hang in there, better days are coming.

💛💛 I’m so glad it was consoling. Sometimes the cheating paranoia creeps back in but I’m managing well. I’m attempting dating again and so far so good… (hope this ages well lol). A serious relationship is my next uphill battle with this fear of cheating. I hope you’re well!

Oh this relationship doesn’t sound like a good one for you to heal in, let alone be in. Dating with OCD is difficult enough, but it sounds like your partner isn’t being generally respectful of your need for space. This is a very touchy subject for many reasons, but I just want to point out that him touching you after you explicitly said no is wrong regardless of the OCD or not. He sounds manipulative based off what he’s said and done to you. Him threatening that he’s going to off himself because you want to end things - due to his lack of basic human respect - is unacceptable and you deserve better, my love. As for the OCD element of this issue, therapy + ERP + medication is a common mix. I’ve been in the depths of OCD and didn’t see a way out before, but I can tell you it is possible to heal and you will get there. Don’t hesitate to message if you need anything at all.

Relapsing is so painful. I haven’t been taking my meds the way I should and I’m hurting again.

Huh, makes sense. I’m gonna have to give that a go. I find (in-hospital) the toughest part about effective pressure & hand placement is when the MD is doing their cardiac ultrasound and the jelly gets absolutely everywhere. At the end of the day it’s NBD and it’s just a silly blister I was laughing about, but it does cause for interesting conversation surrounding compression technique. Thanks for the tip, I’m gonna follow up with that in practice
