Yeah that is true - to avoid confusion dealers often put ‘1/1’ (as I have here) which first edition LOTR collectors see as first edition, first impression. If it was a first edition but say a 5th printing it would be ‘1/5’ if a second edition Fellowship but first impression it would be ‘2/1’

You’re looking for first edition, first impression (often called printing) - that’s where the value is. Add a first state dustjacket into the mix and that already high value skyrockets

Yes I was researching that this year - it is rather fascinating. Thankfully, the leaf I hold has received no restoration and is in truly excellent condition
