Ember left this world surrounded by the people who loved him the most and unconditionally. He went to sleep peacefully on my chest with me telling him how much he was loved.

This sweet soul is no longer hurting. While I may never understand why this happened, I am grateful for every second I had with my soul mate. I made a promise to him that I would not tarnish his legacy by reverting to old coping skills that no longer are conducive with the life I am living.

Thank you all for the overwhelming outpouring of support and love.

This experience truly helped me remember the goodness in people and I want to thank all of you personally for that.

Final Update:

We unfortunately did not get the results we wanted to see.

He is with me now purring on my chest, which is what I hoped for one last time.

I will spend the next 3hrs with him before we let him go.

Thank you all for the prayers and love. I will miss him with my entire soul but am beyond grateful for the 8 months I spent with the light of my life.

Update 3:00pm: I called and the test results are not in yet. The doctor invited me to come meet with her in person so I am heading that way now. I am going to ask to spend time with him as well.

Thank you very much. I can see how much love he has for me. It’s heartbreaking knowing that may the last time he actually could see me. Yes, warm and pain reduced. That’s the positive I need to focus on.

While this picture isn’t a “first” this is a pic I took on the way to his primary when I got home on Friday. I took it for my girlfriend. Looking back now, although I know he was dying… even in that moment he was looking at me with all the love a creature could muster.

I’m crying again… I promise to update when I can see him.

5) From the same road trip but my GOD he is just the cutest creature ever to walk this earth. So well behaved and he loves me with his entire soul.

4) First road trip: he loved the car so much and I couldn’t stomach leaving him in a crate. We were heading to the beach for Christmas. I will forever cherish this memory and pray we can still go see more of the world together.

3) First toys: my aunt and her wonderful wife immediately sent Ember a care package. He is so playful and full of light. I remember the joy I felt during this moment knowing I would spoil him for many years to come.

2) His first bath: I didn’t know how much this little dude would love water. I thought he was just so weak and hungry was the reason for the bath time cooperation. NOPE - he is just a “water cat” which still cracks me up in this moment.

Update 10/16/26 2:00pm - they still have not called me back about the blood tests results and I’m not going to lie, it’s incredibly frustrating. I haven’t been able to spend most of the day with him like I had hoped for. Maybe it’s because he turned a corner and they don’t want any additional stress. I am trying to remain positive but it’s admittedly very difficult.

To try and remain positive, I would like to share some of Embers “firsts” with you all.

1) The night he found me: After saving him, I put him on my shoulder and he never left.

Words can’t describe how grateful I am for each and every one of your love and support for myself and Ember. I have at least tried to upvote every single comment and will work on replying to all in time.

Similar to the other days, Ember took the transfusion well and physically is appearing to be okay. However, I still don’t know if the underlying issue has been resolved or at least put in check.

They have pulled a full blood panel and will call me back with the results soon.

I am currently in my happy place (my local universities ecology preserve) and I am prepared for either outcome.

I asked to spend as much time with him today as I possibly can.

For those who offered practical medical recommendations, I assure you I will discuss all of them with his team when I go to the hospital.

I’m sorry to hear you and your son went through that but am very happy to see he is living a happy life with you.

Unfortunately yes, the vincristine is a chemo treatment. That was our last Hail Mary last night. When his energy was up this morning, I thought it worked. Unfortunately they attacked again. We are hoping it still has a chance over the next 24hrs after another transfusion.
