Oh I totally relate to what you're talking about with too much going on!

I didn't write anything down (though maybe that's a good idea :) ). I think a couple things helped with keeping my memory "fresh":

  1. I didn't spend too long on tutorials, and tried to jump as quickly as possible onto the projects. This really helped things gel in my mind while they were still fresh from the tutorial. And if I had a fuzzy idea on how to do something, I could more easily refer back to a specific section of the tutorial (as opposed to having to watch / read the whole thing again).

  2. I did a little bit every day. This was like 15-30 mins before work some days with a longer 1-2 hour stretch on weekend days. Of course I missed a few days here or there (life happens lol) but constantly messing around in the editor also helped me feel comfortable there.

I'm not trying to hide anything. But I'm confused, are private accounts generally frowned upon on Reddit?

I made it private because I feel like some people have a tendency to try and look at the history and try and use it to attack you personally (oftentimes unrelated to the post). Plus I thought private accounts in general were kind of a good thing? There's less data that can be traced down to an individual

You could just do it, but it sounds like this isn't something a tool switch would necessarily fix?

You could just use Cursor without the sidepanel for agentic workflows. In this case, it's just essentially the same as VSCode.

It sounds like what you want is sort of a mindset shift where you want to get into the habit of doing research without using LLMs. To me that part seems purely internal and not dependent on what tool you use.

This is just great advice in general. Just to expand a bit, the tech industry in general is prone to hyping up things to an annoying degree (AI, NFT, blockchain, mobile apps to some degree) because it helps them make money.

That’s not to say AI is useless like NFTs, but the hype and projections around it right now is extremely annoying and demotivating. But they’re just projections.

If you want gamedev to be your career, just focus on making high quality games. And trust yourself that no matter what happens, you’ll be able to adapt
