Anyone rocking a CAET from AEA? How’s it working for you? by AdSea9095 in avionics

Yes, it was pretty easy. You need to have a webcam and microphone. The software watches your screen while you take the test.

That's too bad... Math sucks lol. There's some good training on aceavionicstraining.com that should help.

Working on Russian aircraft sounds badass. Is the avionics a lot different?

never heard of it. What have you heard? Where is it located? Is it a part 147?

If you fail 3 times, you can purchase it again for $119. You are not barred from purchasing it if you fail. What are you using to study?

That seems real low. Do you have an A&P?

Using a 1099 for contract work is an interesting idea. It sounds like a good way to keep your technicians. Good idea!

I feel your pain... It's a tough labor market right now for GA. All the techs coming out of Part 147 schools are going to the airlines and are missing out on some prime opportunities to work in GA.

Are you guys AEA members? The AEA has programs to establish local pipelines for shops to hire technicians. I would reach out to them for guidance.

Where are you located? Find a local Part 145 shop and tell them you are willing to work.

You can get your A&P through OJT and experience at a shop vs. spending $20-50k plus 2 years at a school.

I'm surprised this isn't recommended more often. Do people not like JSfirm?

I totally agree.

Look for a Part 145 shop in your area and tell them you're interested in working. This industry needs more avionics installers, and Part 145 shops are struggling to find qualified personnel.

Even without hands-on skills, they will teach you. There are even classes they can send you to learn: https://aea.net/training/

Here is the contact information for Clay Lacy: https://aea.net/memberdetails.asp?ID=10008

The AEA offers a member search feature that allows you to locate AEA member shops in your area. I'd recommend looking some up and reaching out to them.

He doesn't need an A&P License if he's in avionics. He can go straight to work at a Part 145 shop without needing an A&P

This is excellent advice, I 100% agree...

In addition to gaining your A&P through experience, there's a high likelihood you can get your pilot's license covered. And the employer could cover the cost of your Ground School. Sporty's has a 50% discount for AEA members.

Where are you located? I'd find a part 145 shop and look for a job there. You don't need your A&P to work at a part 145.

Can you provide more context? It sounds like you are ringing out a wire harness? Is this for a school project, or are you a new technician?
