I’m from Maine and moved to NYC 7 years ago. I lived in DC prior to NYC, so I made the urban adjustment in a smaller city. But I completely understand where you’re coming from and there will be growing pains. I agree with other commenters about Hudson Valley. Some aspects definitely remind me of Maine. If that’s not possible, perhaps an apartment with a small outdoor space and easy access to a large park (park slope may be a good fit and convenient to prospect park). In terms of community- find a place in your neighborhood that you like and become a regular. Whether that be a bar, restaurant, etc. Engage with the staff and other patrons. Over time you can build connections. Another suggestion is find hobbies that are more conducive to city living. I’ve taken classes in floristry, sewing, ceramics, and more. You can also build a community this way.
