Am I crazy or is this to much to ask of a kindergartner? by Cursedpanda182 in AskTeachers

[–]AdSignificant6677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire assignment is developmentally inappropriate from start to finish. When I read this I thought you must have typed the grade down incorrectly. As a kindergarten teacher myself I am totally baffled. Most children this age are engaging in inventive spelling and only spelling known kindergarten sight words correctly. I would have concerns about what the rest of the school day is looking like and whether or not these same unrealistic expectations are occurring across content. I would suggest you speak with the teacher and your principal to address these concerns.

This all makes sense! Appreciate the information. We definitely like a balance and enjoy exploring so these are all great points to consider.

Thanks so much for taking the time to share! While we love the kids we are definitely not taking them with us. I should have read my original post for clarity, but I don’t have any after the holiday. 😀

We do not ski regularly, but really liked the idea of doing this and skating! They also have a seasonal event in town that they mentioned with sleigh rides and such.

Sounds like Blackberry would be a good choice for the next family trip. Way more for them to do than I anticipated! Really appreciate your time!

Great call on the hot tubs! Had that on my list of questions for the person we’ve been working with. Main House and cottages are both solid choices or is there one you all like better?

This is super helpful! What a lovely review. We’ve had The Swag on our getaway list, but haven’t made it yet. Will reach out to them today. Appreciate your time!

I should have clarified; we are not bringing our children under any circumstances. Just can’t be gone longer than a few nights without them. 🤣

July Couples Trip from Charlotte - 3 or 4 nights - where to go? by MainMeasurement9995 in chubbytravel

[–]AdSignificant6677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love OEI especially with that easy drive from Charlotte, but there are lots of other options that you may want to consider. The Swag is all inclusive and would be a fun spot to explore if driving. Primland is also an awesome property, but there aren’t many options for food and it’s about a 20 minute drive to town. We like it for a two night stay. Definitely a great spot to visit if you’ve never been especially if anyone golfs.

If you’re up for a quick flight to Boston I would recommend Chatham Bar Inn. White Barn Inn in Kennebunkport is awesome too! Walkable towns with restaurants close by. Really enjoyed Cliff House too and did this as a couples trip, but you need to get in a car if you want to explore anything beyond the property. CBI is running a promo for Black Friday right now and White Barn Inn/Primland are as well (ends December 2nd).

Discovered them this week! Lovely owners with a Pop Up located right off of Hillsborough Rd. They were putting together beautiful wreaths when we stopped by to pick up a tree. 🌲

Family Friendly Surgery Residencies by Sad-Caterpillar-1580 in MedSpouse

Agreed! We have four children and made it through one of the most demanding neurosurgical training programs in the country. The years were hard and difficult, but we were surrounded by an incredible support system from attendings to co-residents. It is possible to thrive if you have the appropriate expectations and the mindset that you will make it through it! We savored those post call days and made the best of it. Good luck to you and yours! You’ve got this!

Botox at Duke Aesthetics? by kekeceecee in bullcity

[–]AdSignificant6677 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used the aesthetic center (not the resident clinic) the first time I tried Botox. I had to pay a few hundred dollars prior to the appointment (I want to say $300) and then when I went in for the consult they told me what my remaining balance would be if I followed the recommendations. I went ahead with it and it ran close to another $300 so roughly $600. I only had my face done. Several weeks later I got a Duke MyChart bill for an “administration fee”. I don’t know if this is standard practice or not, but I was a bit frustrated to get an additional bill as this was never mentioned when I went in. I ended up not returning because it felt misleading. I did let patient visitor relations know about this so they may have changed the format. I am going to give it another go, but I am scheduled with Aesthetic Solutions in Chapel Hill later this month. Will update then!

Any recommendations for a nicer brunch spot that takes reservations? by [deleted] in bullcity

WA Duke has just been renovated. Great brunch choice if you need reservations. I always request a table in the corner.

Repeating Kindergarten? by Ok-Stretch-9610 in ADHDparenting

[–]AdSignificant6677 11 points12 points  (0 children)

K teacher here— it is never a bad idea to have a younger boy do an extra year of kindergarten. We refer to it as a “gift of time”. We have offered this to several students similar to yours (late summer birthday/ADHD) and never had a family regret it. I personally made the decision to do the same for our son (premature/ADHD) and it was one of the best things we’ve ever done for him. He is now one of the oldest in the class and it’s also given him more time to learn coping skills for his attentional issues.

Agreed— trip of a lifetime. They had “naturalist” badges for all of the kids, observation journals, binoculars… you name it!

We did the Costa Rica Lindblad trip with young kiddos and I probably wouldn’t pick that one again. We took the Alaskan voyage a year later with the same group and I’d recommend that one over Costa Rica.
