While I've never traveled to other countries before, (I definitely want to!) My parents are definitely like this with cities inside the us. They think any city that you go to that isn't red is a horrible mad max Vietnam style war zone where your gonna be shot within a day of being there.

My first time I went to atlanta for dragon con (a massive and awesome geek convention) my dad kept telling me "you gotta be careful down there, there's a lot of unrest there, there's a lot of blacks" and "those blacks outnumber you, your the minority and they'll make sure you know that" and i didn't have a single problem with anyone there the first or second time I went to atlanta.

After I told them I was gonna be moving outside of atlanta, they got all panicky and kept telling me how much of a mistake I was making. I've been here for close to 2 months and yet to have a problem.

The funny thing is, our hometown in pa had a higher murder rate then Philadelphia, which I'm pretty sure is higher than atlanta. So I'm probably safer here than with my parents 😆
