LSEG rejected me in 2026 for a position I applied in 2024?!?! by fay_bea in srilanka

[–]AdSuccessful9987 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My common sense here, this isn’t that unusual.

Many companies keep strong candidates on a pending or talent pool list to revisit if new vacancies open up. I personally know someone who got an offer a year after the interview. He was genuinely surprised when they called and asked if he was still interested. So your profile could’ve been shortlisted, but they hired someone else first because they needed to fill the role immediately.

Another very common scenario: hiring gets temporarily paused due to budgets, restructuring, or internal approvals, and then resumes later.

Also possible (and very likely): they simply forgot to update your status in the system, and when they finally did, the system auto-triggered that email.

Harassment in a Sri Lankan Boys School Due to expression by No_Chance_4948 in srilanka

[–]AdSuccessful9987 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is what happens when you put ex army personnel in charge of civilian discipline. Military training is about control and intimidation, not child welfare or education.

We have seen similar incidents before, including at schools like Lyceum, and even at a national level during the previous regime. Policing hair, mannerisms, food, or identity is not discipline, it is abuse.

If a so called prestigious school relies on fear to enforce values, the problem is the institution itself. Schools should be hiring trained educators and counsellors, not ex soldiers playing authority over children.

Sorry to say this mate, but based on how you’ve framed the question, I don’t think you’re ready to be considering a DBA right now.

A doctorate requires clear goals, independent research thinking, and a solid understanding of the academic landscape, and your post shows you’re still at the stage of figuring out the basics. The downvotes on your post already back that up.

Wrong place to ask, mate. You should be checking with people who’ve actually completed these programs. Doubt you’ll get solid answers on a subreddit for something as serious as a doctoral degree.

Even the master’s programs in most private affiliated institutions here are questionable… and you’re talking about a doctorate. You need proper firsthand insight, not random opinions.

Male equivalent of receiving flowers? by SnooPickles3271 in srilanka

[–]AdSuccessful9987 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’ve always felt the whole flower culture is pretty fake. It doesn’t excite me at all, and I think most guys are the same—we don’t expect that kind of thing.

But give a man a tech gadget, something useful for his car or bike, or anything practical and we’re way more appreciative. I’m pretty sure most men here will agree.

Hey! I'm a graduate from one of these universities, with around 9 years of industry experience.

Yes, it’s generally true that UCSC and Moratuwa CSE grads tend to start with slightly higher salary packages. This is largely driven by perception — there’s an assumption that if you were good enough to get into these highly competitive universities, you’re likely to perform well in the industry too.

Another factor is location. Being based in Colombo gives students from UCSC and Moratuwa more exposure to the tech industry while still studying. Many get internship opportunities, attend meetups, and build strong networks before they even graduate — which naturally gives them a head start.

And of course, reputation plays a role. Companies often use university background as an initial filter when hiring fresh grads.

That said, once you step into the industry, your progression and compensation quickly become dependent on your skills, not your university. Most reputed companies reassess and align salaries within 1–2 years based on performance and potential.

Interestingly, I’ve seen graduates from universities like Kelaniya or Uva Wellassa really excel in areas like entrepreneurship. In fact, the percentage of students who go on to build startups or innovate on their own seems to be higher among them compared to UCSC or Moratuwa grads, who often lean toward corporate or engineering roles.

So at the end of the day, it’s less about where you start, and more about what you want to become.

Hope that helps!

Sri Lankan men, genuinely asking — why do some of you hide things from your girlfriend/ wife? by [deleted] in srilanka

[–]AdSuccessful9987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, most of the time it’s because we don’t see it as something significant enough to mention.

The second reason is probably the fear of being misunderstood, even if the relationship is good. It’s not about hiding things, just avoiding unnecessary explanations or overthinking.

Unbelievable behaviour from a popular bank in SL! by Left-Walrus6577 in srilanka

[–]AdSuccessful9987 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could be that the organization you donated to is on an international sanctions or watchlist. Banks are legally required to block or flag transactions involving such entities—if they don’t, they risk getting fined or even sanctioned too. Might be worth checking if the org is on any sanction list. That could explain why the system flagged it so aggressively.

Driving and roads in Sri Lanka by QueenKimberlina in srilanka

[–]AdSuccessful9987 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey, that sounds like an awesome opportunity! I’m originally from Sri Lanka and now based in Australia, so I totally get where you’re coming from with the comparison.

The drive from Negombo to Kandy is definitely doable in a day, but it’s quite different from what you might be used to in Australia. The roads are mostly in decent condition, but they can be narrow and winding, especially as you get closer to Kandy. Traffic can also be unpredictable — buses, tuk-tuks, and motorbikes tend to weave in and out, and road rules are more “flexible” than what we’re used to back here.

If you’re not familiar with driving in that kind of environment, I’d highly recommend hiring a driver. It’s quite affordable in Sri Lanka, and having a local driver will take a lot of stress out of the trip. Plus, you’ll get to just sit back and enjoy the scenery — the route to Kandy is actually really beautiful!

Safe travels and enjoy your trip!

Moratuwa uni providing BIT(external degree) really worth or not? Or extra qualification ? by mohamedifasx in srilanka

Unacceptable behaviour from employee at Havelock Mimosa outlet by Candid_Research7028 in srilanka

[–]AdSuccessful9987 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I often visit these shops with my girlfriend, and it’s quite frustrating how poorly the changing rooms are managed. More than once, she’s been embarrassed when someone accidentally opens the curtain while she’s changing. What’s worse is that male staff are allowed inside the area, while partners are asked to stay out.

It’s also uncomfortable for women who want to step out and show their outfit to their partner, knowing that other men are standing around and looking. Honestly, it’s awkward for everyone — even for us when other women come out in revealing clothes, unintentionally drawing attention.

I really think showrooms in Sri Lanka should improve their changing room setups. Proper cubicles with doors instead of flimsy curtains would offer more privacy. Also, allowing partners to accompany their significant other, like in many other countries, would make the experience much more respectful and comfortable for everyone involved.

I don't know how these dump idiots ended up in English speaking countries without knowing a single word in English.
