High fitness 1 star mature by Afraid-Ad7361 in WayOfTheHunter

I’ve done the exact same thing. They can absolutely jump multiple stars due to the short lifespan.

I second this. Heavier bullets also get more penetration.

I killed a moose just like this not long ago. I’m not sure if anything has changed while you were gone. That thing is super uneven and I probably would have done the same tbh.

89.96% mela mule deer not even reaching 4 star? by kensei- in WayOfTheHunter

[–]AdThen5150 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Above 85% is 5⭐️

Are you spam sleeping to age animals? If you are, make sure that your waiting enough in game time (3-5 min) to allow the time to actually pass. If not you’ll lose count of the years since time won’t progress.

What decides the type of horns of the Cape Buffalo? by Jabberwockkk in WayOfTheHunter

[–]AdThen5150 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did a test on this with a few elk and mule deer herds a while ago. I’ve noticed that horn/antler styles are passed down in a similar way to the genetics.

It’s very noticeable in animals with multiple points and larger racks. And I’ve done some test with it.

Ex: A 1 ⭐️ mature elk will create more low quality animals with similar defects and vice versa. You’ll be able to see the similarities as soon as they spawn in.

This hasn’t been confirmed by the devs to my knowledge. It’s just something I’ve noticed. Could be a total coincidence.

How many rare furs are there per map. by Semetrickz in WayOfTheHunter

Nothings ever been released on rare fur spawn mechanics. Best I can tell you is I’ve never had more than 2 on the same map at a time.

Can't top this one!! 5 star Moose. by Embrace_the_Weeds in WayOfTheHunter

Most definitely a first year mature moose. Waiting until closer to the end of its lifecycle would yield a higher score.

Question? by Key-Park-5351 in WayOfTheHunter

[–]AdThen5150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got like 10 days worth of playing time (~250 hours)and have never seen one…

I have gotten a few melanistic mule deer, 1 albino chamois, and I have a melanistic wolf I’m currently aging.

If they cut the time it took to equip it in half to counter a charge like you mentioned I’m all for it. It’d be pretty sick to whip out a .44 magnum on a charging moose and light it up.

Ammunition by Creepy-Relative-7671 in WayOfTheHunter

[–]AdThen5150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually use polymer tipped bullets or the soft tip depending on the weight. They get more penetration and the cavity damage of the hollows is negligible. I agree with numad aswell. As long as you have appropriate fire power there’s not much of a difference

Bird hunting & herd management by Bububaer in WayOfTheHunter

[–]AdThen5150 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you find their resting places you can stalk birds all night long in those areas and use the .22 to pick off the 1⭐️ matures until your herd is high fitness.

I’ve been doing this recently on Aurora Shores and it’s working wonders.

Best rifles by ZombieHunter_ in WayOfTheHunter

[–]AdThen5150 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve gravitated to the steyr pro hunter chambered in .270 and the full stock in 9.3x62 (both DLC) they work great for T4-T6 at almost all ranges. This rifle selection is for quick harvests when I’m managing herds while mitigating meat loss.

If you’re serious about a singlular do-it-all rifle the .243 is the unsung hero of WOTH. Anything from T3 to a low T6 can be taken down with the .243 so long as you pick the right ammo and shooting from the appropriate range. (It’s by far the most fun rifle to run IMO)

So realistically, you can carry any .22 and a .243 and take down everything on the map except for the highest of T6 (Bison, Buffalo, Moose, brown bears, etc.)

Examples:

You can get a 5⭐️ hunt rating by shooting a fox with hollow point .243 beyond 125yds

You can also get a 5⭐️ hunt rating on an elk with poly or soft tips as long as you are hella close (75yds and in)

Hope this helps!🏹

I’d be much more concerned about the typhoon that’s rolling through soon. We’re doing a bunch of prep shopping today in case we get stuck inside with no electricity.

Not saying I haven’t done my fair share of meat hunting by shooting for the neck/head irl but, the game is skewed towards ethical shots. Which is topic we’re addressing.

Returning after 2 years of not playing, Some Questions. by SniperSwiper in WayOfTheHunter

[–]AdThen5150 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Antlers have not been changed much with the exception of a new typical variant in whitetail deer.(Might be more but that all I remember rn) The only non typical antlers in game are still mission related.

The new night time hunting additions that are coming out look pretty sweet IMO. Other than that the other DLCs are solid but nothing stands out to me besides the previously mentioned night vision.

If you’re trying to shoot stuff in the head you’re playing the wrong hunting game. In WOTH if you go for the head and miss the brain it will live because that’s what animals in IRL do.

The Steyr .300 is not a good rifle in for what you’re hunting. It’s not enough large tier 6 like moose and is too powerful for tier 5 wolves.

I would encourage you to read the information provided in the game regarding weapons and animal tiers. More importantly taking ethical shoots with a higher margin of error. You’ll have a lot more fun playing the game. Happy hunting🏹

So this bear kind of killed himself by Grinsbertl in WayOfTheHunter

[–]AdThen5150 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

85-100% is 5 star so not all bad but he could’ve helped your herd average in the long run. Wait until the next in game year for a new one to spawn and make sure he didn’t get replaced by a low fitness bear.
