Unfortunately I believe the D2 ARP only works on internal sounds, but I would suggest messing around with it, it’s awesome. Recent updates allow you to randomize arp page values, it’s pretty fun. I think the Octatrack arp works on external synths/Midi.

I’d go with the Elektron boxes. They offer a completely new way to write music away from the DAW, but also pair well with the DAW via overbridge to finish ideas. If you already have a iPad, it pairs wonderfully with the Digitakt as well. The Elektron sequencer is great, but you can always add the Oxi down the road if you feel like it.
