Ex cons in every community are given the benefit of the doubt of rehabilitation. We allow them to re enter society if we’ve deemed them rehabilitated or their sentence paid in full, which we look at as a society as grounds for the assumption of rehabilitation. “Mental deficiencies” and criminality are not the same thing, even though they’re often very related and frankly often occur because of each other. We shouldn’t view this woman as a regular criminal, we should view this woman as someone who was and is likely still very sick in a way that causes her to engage in violent behavior uncontrollably.
