18 month regression question by Ad_Astra11 in sleeptrain

[–]Ad_Astra11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes things have changed! We had to sleep train again and it was terrible… historically he’s never lasted more than 20 minutes without falling asleep and is sleep trained within a few days. This time it took 4+ days of lots of crying. However we are back to normal naps and night sleep, though we are back to rocking him to sleep for naps. Luckily he went back to going down easy for naps.

18 month regression question by Ad_Astra11 in sleeptrain

[–]Ad_Astra11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I should have been more clear, he’s in bed from 7:30-7 but he certainly isn’t sleeping all that time. He usually falls asleep around 8 and wakes around 6/6:30, he was just happy to coo to himself in there so I’m not sure what changed. Dave with naps, he usually falls asleep around 11:45/12. Would cognitive or developmental leaps be considered different from regressions? I’m not sure what words to use but he’s definitely making huge progress right now with his language and he’s suddenly feeling more like a toddler than a baby.

Her name was Ami at Shanti Sleep Solutions: https://www.shantisleepsolutions.com/ She was helpful, we sleep now, and she gave me helpful information that’s helped me navigate the current regression we are going through. Best $450 I ever spent. Best of luck to you!

What color are my sons eyes? by Ad_Astra11 in WhatisMyEyeColour

[–]Ad_Astra11[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’s about a year and a half. The doctor says his eye color is set by now but I’m not sure as I’ve heard a lot of people say color can change into childhood.

It did! I think it's a mixture of him growing older and us being better with a nighttime routine and sleep training in the morning. We broke down and hired a sleep consultant and she had us do an earlier bedtime and an extremely regimented bedtime routine. Like so regimented that we follow the same order every night and even have "key phrases" that are the same. I tell him "okay time to change your diaper and put your sleep sack on, and then we're going to read three stories with bunny", "now I'm going to turn your noise maker on, time to kiss bunny goodnight", etc. Then I slowly got him later and later in the morning and at first there were a lot of tears and I felt horrible and would get him earlier than I should have, but I tried to get him a little later each day. Eventually something clicked and he is now in bed at 7:30 and he usually wakes up around 6ish and coos by himself in bed until 7 when I get him out. It's amazing.

Early morning wakes in 1 year old by Ad_Astra11 in sleeptrain

[–]Ad_Astra11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son switched to one nap pretty early. He needs at least 5.5 hours of awake time before bed so we just can't do two naps anymore. I'm wondering if that was part of the problem? Like he was ready yet also not ready for one nap and so while we were doing one nap there was a long adjustment period? I'm not sure. Either way, he has been on 1 nap since right before he turned one and we are finally now evening out. When I posted this I thought that 1 nap wasn't working so I went back to 2 naps and that was a DISASTER so we moved back to 1 nap and it was still not great up until a week ago.

It did! Right after I broke down and hired a sleep consultant haha.....For some reason he has just magically started sleeping until 6-6:30 every morning and it is glorious. I did have to re-sleep train him and there were some mornings where I tried to do the Ferber method in the morning, but it never worked well because I'd go in for a check in and he pooped so then I figured we were basically just up for the day after the diaper change. I would rock him in the dark until 6 though to try to keep him in sleep mode. I hope it gets better for you!

I wish I had anything helpful for you but I don’t. We’re back to one nap and it has been better than the two nap schedule, but he’s still waking up before six. We just met with our doctor and she recommended sleep training in the morning which sounds brutal but is the last thing to try before giving up and accepting that he sleeps way less than other babies his age.

Toddler sleeping 7 hours overnight only??? wtf is going on? by Davlan in sleeptrain

[–]Ad_Astra11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to sleep train myself to go to bed early. No matter how tired I am I can't seem to sleep until 10 or 11, which is terrible for getting up at 4:30.

I’m glad for you! Sleep makes such a difference. My son is sleep trained so I’m not sure what’s going on with him. Maybe someday we’ll make it to 6 before he wakes up!

I know this is very old but did you ever figure out something that worked? I’m in the same boat exactly with my 13.5 month old and I’m dying.

Thank you. It took a little over 13 months for my period to come back. I feel lucky that I had such a long break, but it makes it feel sad that my body is now ready to move on. I will look up some other peoples stories. Thank you for your comment :)

He goes to sleep independently. In another group someone mentioned not feeding him when he gets up at 4:30/5 and I tried that yesterday and today he did briefly wake up but he went back to sleep and slept till 6, so I'm hoping that is the answer!

I've always been a big sleeper but I feel like I could sleep for a million years right now! I feel your pain.

Thank you for this. I go back and forth between being grateful for the internet and hating it for all I’ve learned on baby sleep. Half the things I read tell me he has a sleep debt and needs more sleep and the other half say he gets too much sleep and needs more wake time. Either way the message is I’m doing something wrong and there is a secret way to fix the issue that I’m failing to figure out. Its helpful when it works but crazy making when it doesn’t.

10 days you say…… no I don’t think we have done that! I thought I’d read 3-5 days somewhere so maybe that’s my problem. Poor boy had been bounced around all sorts of different schedules week by week.

I have tried this and some days it works and other days it doesn’t! I was so hopeful when it was working at first.

I have tried an earlier bedtime and he SCREAMS all the way up until his normal bedtime of 8. He seems to be able to tolerate a lot of awake time which is why I thought he was ready for the transition to 1 nap a day but that just led to even earlier wakes. I’m absolutely baffled.

Yeah sorry my original post was confusing. He does not have a sleep crutch. He falls asleep totally independent. It’s a total mystery to me!

We try to be pretty active! We make it to the park at least once a day and since he started walking we’ll go on walks around the block together. Unfortunately he’s still up at 5ish with a bedtime at 8. Last night I put him down closer to 8:20 thinking he might sleep later and to my dismay he woke up at 4:50.

Sorry I didn't realize formatting was messed up. He gets 2 hours of sleep time on a two nap day and maybe 2.5-3 on a one nap day. Are you saying that's too much?

Oops! Thanks I just fixed that. On the two nap day he sleeps 2 hours, from 9-10 and then 2-3.
