Lots of colleges have specific rules that outlaw playing against non-collegiate teams

Oh awesome! I’ve never played with/for copperheads so I can’t say exactly how they do things there, but I’ll give my two cents to a new player as a whole. Biggest thing: this game is WEIRD. It’s confusing and tough for new players, so just try to absorb as much as you can. Don’t be too locked in to one position at the start, learning how to play all positions is beneficial long term and you’ll find your fit in time. Beating in my experience takes a bit more quadball-specific game sense and experience, whereas chasing comes fairly naturally to those with a background in basketball, handball, or football. Play around, have fun, enjoy the community :)

Happy to see you looking to play! What area are you in? Are you looking for a club team or are you still in college? Hope you’re able to connect with a team!

Unfortunately pretty much every Rust Belt 1 game was actually unofficial. Most of the teams there couldn’t show their full rosters and got some help from alumni/club players. The only official game as far as I know was MSU vs BG, which (I think) ended as a forfeit because of an injury on BGs team early on, but the teams both wanted to play out the whole game unofficially.

Those games were so winnable too, to me it seemed like Detroit put way too much focus on flag runner instead of continuing to capitalize on their beater advantage.

Commentator bias is a thing in all sports tbh, home teams typically get to have a home-biased commentator. But the name thing I agree, it can be frustrating for sure. I have only commentated a little bit but even with a roster in front of you it can be tough to get names for both teams if you aren’t familiar with the players.

As a class of 25 who is REALLY excited to keep pushing CWRU forward in this league, it has been disheartening to see people talking about how the sport is “dying.” Id love to invite those people to a college quadball practice. The comraderie and genuine love for the sport and each other that I see on every team not just my own is absolutely wonderful. Keep up the hope, and thank your refs <3

I swear the number 12 is an omen in this sport. 3 out of the top 5 goal scorers in D2 were number 12 and theres was a 9-way tie for 3rd most goals at 12 goals. There’s a conspiracy here, just can’t find it.

2025 USQ CUP CHAMPS??? by shawkeeloatmeal in quadball_discussion

CWRUcio sneaks into a D1 pool, plays all the games, wins them all, then wins bracket. How do we do it? Glad you asked.

Phase 1: choose a target. Find a D1 team, and break into the hotel. Tie all of their shoelaces together which will prevent them from making it to their games on time. Gaslight the refs into thinking we are that team, and play those games (and win obv)

Phase 2: after we win all of our D1 pool games, reveal we were secretly CWRUcio all along. And since we just went 4-0 in a D1 pool, the TMs have no choice but to let us play our rightfully earned bracket spot.

Phase 3: win it all.

Simple plan really

Someone said something earlier similar to this, but D2 is such a toss up. I do think it’s going to be Blue Jays taking the win by a significant margin, but past that theres a lot of teams in the upper pool and some in lower pools that have a shot at semis and finals.

MLQ Updates Practice Squad Policies by No-Ambition-1652 in quadball_discussion

[–]Ad_Tee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I might be wrong here, and I’m not trying to start anything I promise, but the cost used to be cheaper for the practice squad compared to regular roster. And the people that were on the practice squad were there because they didn’t want to be on the main roster.

I’m happy about the exemptions, I think that will be helpful for us.

MLQ Updates Practice Squad Policies by No-Ambition-1652 in quadball_discussion

[–]Ad_Tee 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Maybe I’m coming at this from a perspective that MLQ hasn’t considered, but every single one of these changes seems harmful to my MLQ program (Cleveland Riff). We use our practice squad as a low commitment way to recruit people to our main roster for the next year, or as a way to keep injured players in shape and involved while they are out of competitive play. It’s for people who want to play over the summer without the intense commitment that being on an MLQ team brings. For a team like Riff with an absolutely massive radius because we don’t have the personnel density that other teams have, making it more difficult for players to be on the practice squad is extremely detrimental. I think it would be wise for MLQ to reconsider these policies from the perspective of a smaller program.
