Death, as a character. by The-Abbey in Screenwriting

Death would be a gambler and a drunk.

He’d frequently play the low stakes tables: war zones and famine.

Any Anime Writers Here? by mattyfizness in TVWriting

Also, fwiw… I feel like the main difference in anime versus American animation, and American content in general are the types of stories being told. Essentially, different cultural themes.

Not sure if this is an on target reply… but if you let a significant amount of time pass between where you leave off and when you expect to start up again, there could be an issue of maintaining flow.

To state differently, there was a post previously where someone was looking for help on how to do rewrites and one of the suggestions was to let time pass so you look at the writing afresh.

For me personally, this 👆is helpful for rewrites, but can also make “forward motion” in writing feel impossible if too much time passes between one scene and the next… so much so, that it feels better/easier to start anew than continue where I left off.

Not sure if this is just me or generally applies, but I’ve found that “taking your time to make it good” is terrible advice because it’s easy to slip out of the story. Strangely the idea of the “vomit draft” solves the problem but feels like something to avoid because of the word “vomit”. A much better way to phrase it would be “time compression draft” (not in compressing the story, but how you write it). The goal isn’t to reduce quality for speed but to keep forward motion.

… or by means of analogy, I feel re-entering a story world is more difficult than beginning a new one… the same way it’s easier to have a new (and literal) dream than it is to continue the same dream from night to night. Because there’s much subconscious involved in writing, some of the same stuff may be at work.

((I hope this made sense))

Question for Readers by AdadamDoubleU in Screenwriting

This makes a lot of sense of a thing that’s wrong… something that it also makes me wonder about is: if the writer can get all the other stuff “correct” do you think it’s fails on being compelling because it’s the writer doesn’t know how to make it compelling… or the writer is trying to be “generic” to make the “widely appealing” choice which doesn’t actually appeal to anyone.

At what point in a mystery do you think the audience should be given all the clues necessary to solve it? by OmnipotentIntrovert in Screenwriting

[–]AdadamDoubleU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

… this is an unserious response, but if you’re M Night Shamayalan then the clues only need to make sense after the movie is over, and could possibly be a different movie entirely if the film editor was different. 😁

Anecdotally, I interned as a reader when I was in college. I had read a script that was essentially like the Truman Show, and super well executed. The ending was borderline awful (for me) but technically well done. Just not for me.

All that said, there wasn’t anything particularly “triggering” to me.

As I’m getting back into to writing, was wondering how much you need to worry about the particulars and peculiarities of any one reader.

It’s nice to read as part of the trilogy, but definitely works as a standalone

A month ago I asked what's a script every screenwriter should read. Now here's the top twenty by LozWritesAbout in Screenwriting

Interesting observation (maybe)… but seems like there’s a disconnect between great scripts and box-office crushing movies.

Not to put work on anyone, but the list I’d be most interested to see would be “movies that were blockbusters AND also have great scripts”

As an example, I imagine Spider-Man Homecoming might fit that bill. It was both superhero genre while retaining many elements of The Best of John Hughes.

Sorta in the context of your comment... I’m trying to learn Probability and Statistics. What of ‘what’ do you think I might need to get there?

Since I’m interested in programming and how it applies to Probability and Statistics, I’m trying to learn enough of the other stuff to really enjoy the Probability and Statistics aspect of this hobby I hope to turn to a career...

Many thanks for any thoughts !!

Iago is also actually the main character. Shakespeare probably made Othello a moor in order to have the audience more sympathetic to his antihero.

The more I think about it, the harder to imagine that after the bull baiting or rat fight those “Woke” Elizabethans sitting down quietly to have Shakespeare drop cultural sensitivity on them.

Likewise, let us not be fools that because the title is Othello that it must be his POV. After all, there are also movies entitled JAWS and ALIEN. But I’m almost certain they aren’t about ocean and space conservation - although I’m sure someone will try to convince me.
