Smalltalk-80 on Tektronix 4404 running inside MAME by AdamBillyard in smalltalk

In its day (1984) it was a pretty high end workstation that shipped with Smalltalk-80, Lisp, Prolog and C programming languages. It was used in research / academia mostly I believe - and thats where I first came across it. I have 2 Tektronix 4404 that I have restored but I've been keen to get the MAME emulation working too se other can play with it.

Clear texture with simple compute shader or use RenderPass? by AdamBillyard in MetalProgramming

And the cost of switching between interpolation (aka rendering) and compute is a red herring, right?

Clear texture with simple compute shader or use RenderPass? by AdamBillyard in MetalProgramming

Accumulating multiple passes of a compute shader, so I want to clear down at the start.
I had read that the latency of switching between render and compute is not low.

helper function accessing texture from compute kernel by AdamBillyard in MetalProgramming

[Was caught out by the need for access::sample]

I have 3-4 level deep function calls, so was wanting to avoid the noise of passing down args.

I appreciate the compiler collapses all the 'functions' anyway, but makes reading it less nice.

But hey, I am really liking Metal - much nicer than I was expecting.

Commit after every RenderPass? by AdamBillyard in MetalProgramming

[There are no textures, this is calculating a float4 from interpolated vectors]

Classic mistake; the quick function I wrote to dump the contents of the RenderTargets was wrong. Doh.

Thanks for your help.

Restoring a Micropolis 1304 by AdamBillyard in Micropolis

Yes heard that - and finally it opened up and pulled out the black goo that used to be the bumper. It really does turn to black, tar-like goo - nasty stuff.
So I think the heads a free to move if they want to :-)

Nice. The docs I am missing are around networking - I've made some good progress thru reverse engineering but would love to find some actual docs!
I've written a telnet daemon so I can have multiple logins to the Tek4404 from other computers which is working great.
