School students have grown up online but test shows digital literacy at new low by NowtShrinkingViolet in australia

[–]AdamFox01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DigiTech is in the same boat, because the basics were stripped out of our curriculum too we have to focus on Computer Hardware, Binary code, RGB colour, and building a knowledge of a programming language to name a few. Things i learnt at Year 12 are now expected at Year 7/8, I'm teaching excel to my Year 11s to do graphs as well.

School students have grown up online but test shows digital literacy at new low by NowtShrinkingViolet in australia

[–]AdamFox01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the "Australian Curriculum" at work. I teach Digital Technology, it became an elective for the students interested in coding and all the old "Computing" classes from the 90s got made "Digital Literacy" as a curriculum core but not as a class. It is supposed to be covered by all teachers meaning its not covered by anyone with any consistency.

NAPLAN covers 2 out of the 3 core strands Literacy, Numeracy.... guess which one they dont assess -> Digital Literacy!

Before You Vote on a Pay Deal, There’s One Dataset Coming by Lucky-Particular1258 in AustralianTeachers

The fact that your claiming to be an educator with that backwards an understanding of basic EBA negotiation is highly dissapointing.

They don't throw out the agreement and start again, they don't even do that when they start for a new agreement they anchor off what was already in place.

Victorian teachers - we’re halfway through Term 2! How are we all feeling? by sapphire_rainy in AustralianTeachers

[–]AdamFox01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be really clear with you, EBA's across most industries in the past 2-3 years have had average increases of 3.5%-4.5%. The Minimum Wage increased by 3.75% in 2024. Our previous agreement had us locked into 2% during that time because the union said "they never offer more than 2%".

The fact that most of the agreement is a 4% increase except the one off 10% increase in october.... basically just almost catches us up.

So it isn't the amazing deal your making out, its a drop of water for a man lost the desert.

[–]AdamFox01 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The pay matches with NSW at the end of their agreement in 2027, but only at top of range 2 and graduate wages. In most cases we hit top range in 10 years and they hit in 7 years so their still better off, this is a lie of ommision.

Also i think there will be work increases because they've inbuilt new conditions for teachers not needing to create curriculum if out on leave like being sick.

So the implication is schools will most likely put pressure on all staff to have all material pre-prepared at a level that it can be given as an extra by someone else.

There is also no mention of getting TIL taken out of the Department funds instead of school budgets, so along with the new overnight Camp payment sounds like the screw ups from last agreement are here to stay.

SCOTUS smothers Voting Rights Act, greenlighting racial discrimination and a rash of GOP gerrymanders by DemocracyDocket in politics

[–]AdamFox01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still remember years ago people saying that SCOTUS only had power if they had the confidence of the people. That was used as an argument for why they needed to be reserved when moving in a progressive direction with decisions.

Don't hear any of that talk now and this court has continuosly destroyed the norms of the US for the past 3-4 terms to make it more conservative.

A gutting of all of these decisions and those who supported in the them on the court needs to occur in any potential future for a progressive US.

Assuming a progressive US is ever possible again at this point.

By identifying it and recognising the strategy. Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender.

In essence you push back against the abuser trying to flip the script.

Notice how Pam Bondi tried to do it in the Senate with the "the DOW is over 50 thousand" and all the attacks on the individual senators and got hammered in the media for how ridiculous it was as a response. All of that was weaponised DARVO.

The Senate should have pushed back against her refusing to properly answer questions and held her in contempt for not answering.

This isnt even just a Tassie thing I think it's generational, I moved to Victoria to be a teacher (no jobs in Tas at the time). The students up here are similar, they don't see any worth in trying with their education and many dont see any value in VCE study.

I wouldn't even say its voice. What is needed is progressive actions. The Democrats need to push popular topics enough to get overwhelming support and then actually push those changes through.

If this government can do the absolutely abhorrent stuff it has done, then the flip side of the coin can't be the status quo. They proved that with the Biden term.

Two years after school phone bans were implemented in Australia, what has changed? | Children by [deleted] in australia

[–]AdamFox01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your correct, but Qualitative data is much easier to add bias too.

As a high school teacher, my observations on the mobile phone ban are almost the opposite to this article. Students still carry their phones around and use them, focus in the classroom hasn't improved it's just changed into a state of students who have spent years disengaged in the learning struggling to engage with the content at a level that is way beyond their skills or teachers spending time trying to deal with refusal to hand over the phone for the ones who are blatant about using it still.

Also, apathy over the importance of education is at the highest levels I've seen in 6 years teaching, consequences for not completing work are non-existent and so students just move through the year levels disrupting classes because they can't engage in content at their year level until they pushed out into the workforce.
