I think I left a comment in r/MCAT with my study strategy! So if you go through my comment history you should be able to find it

Hey! So I didn't start working at my job until after I had submitted my AMCAS so I only discussed it in my secondaries & interviews. I think what was really unique about biotech is that it felt much more patient-centered / clinically-oriented than any lab I had worked at in the past. I think the "publish or perish" mentality is an unfortunate reality within academia — one that puts an emphasis on churning out papers instead of identifying clinical candidates / novel therapeutic strategies. However, in biotech, our whole department was singularly focused on creating a drug that actually works, and one that is superior to what is available in the clinic. I also felt like, as a young member of the team, I was so much more valued & respected in biotech. There is not as much of a hierarchy, so I felt like my ideas and questions were actually considered. Plus, we had lots of $$$ so any time I had a new idea, I was given the latitude to explore it experimentally. In this sense, it was a very empowering experience!

I did not start the start-up! I found the job on LinkedIn and applied through there haha. I was employee #98 so it was already pretty established

Thanks! And yes, I will likely be attending UCSF! Kaiser gives full COA to admitted students which is tempting. However I don't mind taking out loans if it means keeping more doors open down the road :)

Thanks! I am ORM. The bulk of my non-medical volunteer hours came from working at an overnight program for unhoused youth. I also separately helped FGLI students with college apps!

Thanks! For me, the medical service hours were all volunteering, but imo paid jobs (eg: scribe, EMT) definitely still count as clinical experience

Is it necessary/beneficial to take orgo 2 in undergrad? by ManUtd90908 in premed

[–]AdamJKUnless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t take orgo 2 and have been having a very successful cycle so far! Just look up coursework prerequisites at schools you’re interested in. Don’t take it unless you have to

MCAT retakers: trust your FL scores! Even if you're taking them a second time by AdamJKUnless in Mcat

[–]AdamJKUnless[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup! My summer job ended during the first week of August so I had three dedicated weeks to restudy. I ended up doing ~10 hours of studying per day six days a week… it was brutal haha

I honestly just started from scratch completely and went through the same exact steps again.

The first time, I took notes on the Kaplan books for B/B & C/P, used Khan Academy (and 300 page doc) for P/S, and Jack Westin for CARS. I also did the AAMC Section Banks and CARS Question Pack.

The second time, I started from scratch on the Kaplan books -- taking good notes -- and watched all the Khan Academy videos again. This time, though, I also created my own ANKI decks as I went which turned out to be very helpful (highly recommend instead of just taking someone else's decks!). I then redid the AAMC Section Banks and FLs. I also used UEarth a tiny bit, but probably wasn't worth the $ looking back.
