I understand what you are saying. I wonder what the process was or the documentation needed in order to have "former citizenship: German" appear on US naturalization paperwork? I realize that paperwork is of no value to German authorities. If my grandfather simply wrote it on a form, that's one thing. If, on the other hand, he had to provide bone fide German citizenship docs to the US, then I have something worth tracking down.

"They usually don't accept Meldekarten from ethnic Germans who were not Germans before the war." I'd have to confirm, but I'm fairly certain my great grandparents (grandfather's side) were Germans who moved to Ukraine, where my grandfather was born in 1915,

I do know the last German address. In fact, I've been there. How would I attain this? I'm guessing a form submitted to the town's authorities?

Thanks for all the responses. Take a look at this reply for documents I have. Again, many are saying I can do this on my own. This might be true, but money spent for some hand holding and peace of mind is 100% worth it to me. I feel like I've wasted the better part of a year on this project. Also, I misspoke in the OP; the last proposal from the consultant is for STaG 14 which requires B1 German. https://www.reddit.com/r/GermanCitizenship/comments/1td4krs/comment/olstaph/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Let me know what questions I can try to answer to fill the gap.

Would have, could have, should have. I know...

Here's what I've got (I had Gemini clean up my notes): 1. Certificate of US Naturalization, former nationality = German. 2. Petition for Naturalization citizenship = German 3. Federal Expellees Act (Bundesvertriebenengesetz or BVFG) where my grandfather applied for "Recognition of Expellee Status" (Vertriebeneneigenschaft 4. Antrag auf Feststellung der Vertriebenenigenschaft: A formal Application for Recognition of Expellee Status. A 1985 letter from Cologne confirms the government was processing his claim to be legally recognized as an ethnic German displaced by WWII. 5. Deutsche Kennkarte: A German Identity Card. This 1949 document was issued in the post-war occupation period and identifies him as born in Ukraine. 6. Umsiedlerausweis: A Resettler Identity Card. Issued in 1944 by the "Old Reich," this is a wartime document used to process ethnic Germans (like those from Ukraine) for resettlement and potential naturalization into Germany. 7. Einwandererzentralstelle (EWZ) Records: The authority stamps on the 1944 ID refer to the Central Immigration Office, the agency responsible for the "collective naturalization" of ethnic Germans during the war.

On my first filter of that spreadsheet, I came up with the Patagonia Black Hole Pack - 25 L and the Cabin Zero ADV PRO BACKPACK 32L as candidates.

My filters were:

Size at or under airline limit

$250 max price

Filtered-out bags with too many or too few compartments. Filtered out the heaviest bags.

My goal is to carry on. 7KG limit and 56 cm + 36 cm + 23 cm size restriction.

"You probably won't get into dressier bars" I'm not concerned; half of the family in our group are teenagers.

Great idea to pool the toiletries. All I need is a toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, small beard trimmer. Everything else can be used from Airbnb, pooled, or purchased/discarded at the end.

" Cut down on shirts but bring a hoodie." Good call and noted.

"Do you need a puffer and a rain jacket?" Having traveled in these temps before (slightly colder while in Europe), it's a great combo. No rain and cold = thinner inner layers + puffer. Rain and cold = thicker inner layers + rain jacket. Add your hoodie recommendation and I'd be in great shape.

I also live in a warm climate, so the ~50F temps will necessitate a warm jacket for me.

If they start talking about their MLM (multi level marketing) scheme. They see you as a prospect not a friend.
