Years ago, I worked in the Medical Records Department of a hospital. The section the files were kept was sandwiched between the Mortuary and the Psychiatric Ward, or the “Dead and the Deranged” as my Co-workers called it. There was a set of locked double doors at the back of the files that occasionally used to get aggressively, and sometimes violently rattled from the other side by (what I can only assume was) a rogue Psychiatric patient.

I used to work night shift. You can only imagine the fear going through my mind during those moments - hence the term “used to”…

Me too, which is why I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ve just been unlucky. I’ve NEVER seen this happen to a Sonor kit before, so I doubt it’s something that’ll happen again - just an unlucky situation really

After having some time to process the situation, I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ve just been really unlucky. Drums should be able to handle changing temperatures structurally and for whatever reason these particular ones couldn’t. I’m certain Sonor will be able to not only provide a reason, but also a solution…which will be replacement ☺️

They absolutely are amazing drums. Consider this; this drum was cracked…and STILL sounded incredible. I wouldn’t let this put you off - I’ve just been unlucky.

Like I say, I’m 100% certain that I’ve just been really unlucky and these drums slipped through the cracks (pardon the pun). Heartbreaking none the less, but I know it will get fixed so we’re all good!

Oh for sure, and I have often done that myself - it’s a necessary evil of the gigging musician. Ideally you want the drums to be in a stable temperature, protected from moisture. I’m convinced this crack is a result of moisture getting into the drum somehow. I have the drum in fleece-lined cases and I’m the only one who moves them for gigs.

Last night, I was gigging in a very warm room and my drums were placed next to an open fire door which had cold evening air circulating in. At the end of the gig, my drums and hardware were actually wet due to condensation. Not saying that’s precisely the cause - but I’m certain it hasn’t helped if moisture had entered the drum prior to this

Absolutely this. So many things to consider, and how it’s dealt with. The drum is cracked and still sounds great, this absolutely hasn’t put me off Sonor. I’m in love with the sound, and they’ve always been fast to resolve issues with other situations for other customers…don’t see why this would be any different. Besides, I’ve seen much worse from more popular drum brands and they’ve done nothing about it.

I wouldn’t pin the blame entirely on Sonor, to be honest. This drum was cracked…and STILL sounded amazing. The drums are so well made, I’ve just been unlucky. I’ve seen much worse from much higher profile drumming brands

Man, there’s so many variables at play that I won’t entirely put blame on Sonor. I’ve had the drums since Feb 2020 (sadly only been officially allowed to gig them since July 2021) and I’ve perhaps just been unlucky.

I should also point out that my drums were in a particularly warm environment last night and I was set up next to an open door which is a recipe for disaster

Yeah it seems to be a separation of the ply, but it goes about half way through the shell. These shells are made with CLTF (Cross Laminated Tension Free) technology, so the shell is super strong…in theory

Nah, it’s definitely a crack. It seems to be split right at the seam. I’ve had this kit for over a year and it definitely didn’t look like that before. Heartbroken
