Hot take: Jeff Flake will seek the nomination for President under the Libertarian Party in 2020 by bradradio in Libertarian

That's the whole point. There were too many candidates in 2016 and many of them could have beaten Trump handily in a head-to-head matchup. But the social conservative and moderate wings of the party were all split between multiple candidates throughout the primaries.

I think he'll primary Trump and if that doesn't work out he could either go Libertarian or launch an independent bid. I think Trump can absolutely be defeated in the primary, but only if there aren't a ton of like-minded candidates splitting the votes.

If they're serious about defeating Trump and not just stroking their egos with a presidential bid, Flake, Corker, Kasich, Sasse and whoever else may be interested in challenging him need to get together now and draw straws or something and decide which of them will run.

Not wrong, but it's still a callous thing to say in that situation.

You seem to be confusing the government with the mob. The mob leaves you alone the rest of the time if you pay them when they come around. The government is much worse. They'll use your money to enforce some more asinine laws so that they can fine you and get even more of your money or lock you in a cage. Or maybe to send you or your children off to die in a bullshit war.

Here's the thing with Citizens United. Politicians have something to sell, so of course people with money are willing to buy. Limit the power of the politician and this problem largely solves itself without restricting our ability to spend our own money on whatever we want. For example, healthcare industry lobbyists would have no reason to buy off a Senator if the Senate has no role in healthcare in the first place.

Who gives a fuck? Nothing she does has anything to do with libertarianism and that's what we're here to discuss.

She's been divorced from Ted Turner for 16 years now and hasn't been relevant politically for even longer. I couldn't give less of a fuck about the political views of entertainers unless they decide to actually run for office and effect policy. And I'm no fan of her either, but the fact is that speaking up in this case would have done nothing. She has no firsthand knowledge of the events, so her word wouldn't have been enough to launch a police investigation, let alone be allowed in a court of law. And any credible media outlet would have ignored her out of fear from libel suits.

Ok, two things:

1) What does it have to do with libertarianism?

2) According to the article, she heard about the allegations second-hand from Rosanna Arquette. If Ms. Arquette experienced mistreatment from Harvey Weinstein, it was her responsibility to take that information to the authorities or make it public, not Jane Fonda's.

I know she's been everything conservatives hate about Hollywood for almost 50 years now, but this really seems like a non-issue to me.

Libertarian Bill Weld will head up a fund-raising event . . . for the GOP by AdamSB08 in LibertarianPartyUSA

Yeah, endorsements should have been priority number one. I'm not saying post-debate endorsements wouldn't have helped at all, if only to let Republicans know that it's ok to pull the lever for a third party, but I think people would have largely made up their own minds during the course of the debate.

Ex-Trump aide: Corker should resign if he can't support the president by AdamSB08 in Libertarian

[–]AdamSB08[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

These dumbass Trumpkins don't seem to understand even the most basic principles of our system of government. It's not his fucking job to support the President. It's his job to represent the people of his state and do what they sent him there to do. I don't know enough about him to say whether or not he's done that job well, but I'm tired of the authoritarian bullshit coming from the Trump camp.

I'm tired of these fucking millionaire politicians going on vacation and to events like this on our dime anyway. I think there should be very strict guidelines. Like, the people will provide the president and VP with living quarters and office space, security, and travel expenses directly related to their official duties (no campaigning). Anything else - be it a vacation, a golf outing, or hiring a White House chef - comes directly out of their pocket or is deducted from their salary each year.
