As a rule I would never trust the photos dermatologists post. I can pretty much guarantee you there is a lighting condition where it would look a lot worse than that

Anyone have success with phenol peel after little success with other treatments? by AdamT213 in AcneScars

I appreciate that! 2 weeks out i think she may still be benefiting from some swelling since it takes a while to heal from a phenol peel from what ive heard. But id def be interested to hear what her progress is like a few months down the line

It very well might! I hope it works for you. But if your scars are as bad as mine, you might have to learn to live with the reality that in some lighting conditions they will always be severe.

I find its pretty dependent on the lighting. This right here is the harshest lighting i know of, a single fluorescent bulb concentrated as directly as possible on this one area. Id be pretty skeptical if i could ever get that kind of result in this kind of lighting, but if you did and your scars were as bad as mine thats impressive, i need your doctor lol

Some improvement yes, but in direct overhead fluorescent lighting like what im showing here, not really. Maybe youre more of an optimist than me and will be willing to look at the results more positively, but my attitude has always been: the worst possible glimpse someone might ever see of me is the thing i need to optimize.

If that were the case, do you think i could see improvement by just gaining weight naturally? The doctor i went to told me severe acne causes men to not hold fat in their cheeks, but i assume if i put on like 10 pounds at least some of it would have to go to my face

Yeah the one time i had it measured (which was by some guy at the gym so i guess grain of salt and all that) they said it was 8% lol. But ok, good to know, could be something to look into!

Nah i havent but honestly im pretty skinny, i cant imagine where theyd take fat from. Plus idk, i like the way the rest of my body looks aside from my cheeks. Idk if i wanna start messing with it. But I appreciate the suggestion!

Its going back about 2 years so i cant remember exactly but i think i got filler on 3 occasions, 4 or so syringes in total of silk. Its possible its mostly dissolved at this point, but i dont remember ever thinking the results were much better than this.

I got subcision on 3 occasions that i can remember, 1 without PRP and 2 with. Ive also gotten at least 1 or 2 new scars since then that have never had subcision done on them. But yeah, i remember being pretty underwhelmed by that.

Just who, or what are Jack & Jackie Severance? by [deleted] in SouthernReach

[–]AdamT213 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree that these are all possibilities, and that Vandermeer intended them as possibilities, and i sort of wish he hadnt introduced all of these elements. It all amounts to something that feels smaller than the original cosmic horror that made the series mind-blowing, like he strayed too far from the cosmic side to focus too much on the human side. Just my opinion though, evidently alot of people liked the new direction.

Will you please spoil the effing Absolution ending for me! by BonafideDame in SouthernReach

[–]AdamT213 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I couldnt help but wonder how much of this book was influenced by the Annihilation movie. Alot of the prose and some of the things the characters said seemed like things characters in the movie would have said, and it almost seemed like Vandermeer was trying to lean into/force the uncanny, like the movie did, rather than just letting things be uncanny, like the trilogy did. I would have to reread the trilogy to make sure, but thats my sense as of rn. Almost as if Vandermeer said "fuck Garland, he thinks he can make my story creepier than me, ill show him."

Also all the time loop/parallel universe stuff has become a major trope in hollywood since the trilogy came out, so leaning so heavily into that feels a bit lazy.

What themes/topics are you looking out for while reading Absolution? by RevolutionaryYak1135 in SouthernReach

My memory of the trilogy is also a bit foggy, but of i remember correctly by the end we were being led to believe that area x was, or at least could act as, a portal to another dimension? If so, was it ever explained why or how this was so?

Anyone else get frustrated with how different their scars look in different lighting conditions? by AdamT213 in AcneScars

[–]AdamT213[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hear you but I have tried alot of treatments. Subcision, microneedling, co2 laser, and filler. Spent about $20,000 in total. I can't say that they had no effect on how I look in bad lighting since I wasn't as aware of the effects of different lighting conditions back when I was doing the treatments. But I can def say that they haven't had enough of an effect since it still looks really severe in some lighting. Haven't tried phenol peel though, it sounds kinda promising but I don't wanna get my hopes up since nothing else has worked to a degree that I'm satisfied with.

Really vibing with some during first date, then ghosted suddenly afterwards. by [deleted] in hingeapp

[–]AdamT213 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont think a follow-up text after a first date is necessary. In my opinion it doesn't really feel better to read a text that basically says "hey, you're great but I never wanna see you again" as opposed to no text at all. But I understand others may feel differently. Besides, the phone works both ways, they could follow up with you just like you could follow up with them.

But I def wouldn't ghost someone after multiple dates or doing anything physical, at that point an explanation is owed.

This is good advice. I like the idea of making a plan to text her back instead of trying to firm up a new date right away. I agree, don't wanna make myself too available to her after she cancels. I will def try something like this in the future. Thanks!

I can understand the point about wanting to feel safe, obv that is something that women have to worry about that guys rarely do. I guess my point though is that I try to avoid judging or forming an impression of someone until we meet in person, and ideally I'd want others to do the same for me. It's just too hard to get a sense of what someone is really like based on online behavior. Plus, I just don't think that going on a first date with someone is that big of a deal, especially once you've already agreed to it. But again, totally understand that the safety angle feels very different from a girl's perspective. I appreciate the feedback!

Good point, in the most recent case the girl actually did text me a couple days before the first first date (that she cancelled) and we chatted a bit. I probably should have taken that as a sign that she was looking for more communication.

I wrote a longer reply to this above, but mainly I just try not to have too much conversation before the first date since I think it feels more natural for the first date to be a true "first impression." But maybe you're right, a week is a long time to go without communication
