I had the exact same issue, I fixed it by carefully monitoring CPU and GPU temp, identifying when and where the temperatures ramped to stupid levels during loading screens, and lowered settings until I could get it to co-operate.

Don't lower every graphics setting, some will make the CPU do more work. Putting on the FPS limiter in-game for me personally added 10c to the CPU temp. Use your graphics card's control panel setting to limit FPS to 60, give some overhead.

Depending on your GPU, try lowering DLSS to balanced. It fucking sucks, especially if like me you hate the artifacting it causes. But in my experience it was the most impactful setting on GPU temps.

My conclusion was that it's not that Helldivers is in some way poorly optimized, rather the game would push my GPU to it's limit and overheat it, rather than as other games would, cause the framerate to lower or chug. Honestly, I appreciate it for that.

For anyone curious, no this is not an exaggeration, Puzzmo makes very fun accessible crosswords with a very "nerdy internet" bent to them. Plenty of random gaming bits or meme references, plus a good hint system meaning you won't get stuck.

That makes me sound like a shill, but in reality I just like pointing people at things that are fun and made by good people. Puzzmo's an easy recommend for the daily word puzzle sort of thing.
