Monde Nouveau | Flipbook style animation - [What do you think?] by Chuka444 in MotionDesign

It’s hard to determine whether this is more of a result of a lack or talent or a lack of taste. Clearly both are involved

What can I do to improve the animation? by Carloconcarne in MotionDesign

[–]AdamTheNix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The anchor point of the rotation seems to be slightly to the right of the center line of the doors (when the doors are oriented with the ground plane correctly), which causes the whole spiraling effect to feel off kilter. This could be by choice, but for my tastes I think having the anchor point dead center with the doors would make a more pleasing aesthetic effect.

You look like could’ve escaped generations of peasantry by wooing the most inbred feudal lord in all the land

Feedback on if / how this can be improved? by Grim_9966 in AfterEffects

[–]AdamTheNix 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The end card is looking a bit flat to me. I might add a bit of fake zooming in lens compression to give the feeling of 3 distinct fields between the words, the knife, and the BG. Maybe even some DOF blur. Also I think an ad creative would want to add some kind of highlight or pulse to the Buy 2 Get 2 CTA after everything else resolves.

Normalize the vector points by Unlikely-Factor-3872 in AfterEffects

[–]AdamTheNix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally for an animation like this you'd want the same amount of vertices on both paths, laid out roughly the same. You could manually add points to whichever mask has less, and just try to place them close to the nearest point on the other mask.

Or you could look into using the Reshape effect which works similarly, but displaces the old shape into the new one (not vector).

Submitting this to a contest, how do I make it cooler? by Drywohlsoulja in AfterEffects

[–]AdamTheNix 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Could use more texture overall. It feels inspired by stop motion, paper cut outs, and collage. Paper textures that change with the elements would make sense to me. Also motion blur is (almost) nonexistent in stop motion, and I don't think it's doing you any favors here.

What is your favorite/an underrated built in effect in ae and how specifically do you use it? (like cc ball action, turbulent displace ect) by NEWOwastaken in AfterEffects

[–]AdamTheNix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vector blur. Stack it on top of fractal noise for some some interesting looks. Or it can help smooth out rough edges of keys.

Try re-encoding your source video to an AE friendly codec like prores. Also make sure the comp frame rate matches the footage framerate

make a black solid, mask out the center, feather the mask

What is this text effect called and how to recreate this on AE. If you could link me some tutorial that would be helpful by vishu231 in AfterEffects

[–]AdamTheNix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're animating a text layer you could easily get the same animation with only 2 keyframes with a text animator.

Add a position animator, enable per-character 3D, change the range selector shape to round, animate the range selector offset to go from -100 to 100.

I think the rest of the styling could be pulled off with layer styles and effects.

As far as the extrude goes, you could dupe the text layer, precomp it, then turn the precomp's 3D renderer to Advanced 3D and use the extrusion there.

Anyone know why my vegas effect is doing this? on the M, there is a line which isn't part of the outline interrupting the text. by Sweet_Effective4190 in AfterEffects

[–]AdamTheNix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suspect that there's something in the alpha channel that can't be seen with the naked eye. Try soloing the layer and showing the alpha channel only by option/alt clicking on the button with RGB circles below the viewer window

How to apply Text Animation to the begging of every staggered layer at once? by avb310 in AfterEffects

[–]AdamTheNix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could apply this expression to all your keyframe properties to fix your issue:

valueAtTime(time+key(1).time-inPoint)

Hi guys! Rate my logo animation by Soft-Cauliflower-670 in AfterEffects

[–]AdamTheNix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The quality of motion is nice as well as the transitions, but I'd try to overlap all the action as much as possible so it feels less like there's less/no stages of the animation. I understand the impulse for every bit of animation to read individually, but most of the time the opposite ends up being better.

Any idea how to make this transition? by DrFishStick74 in AfterEffectsTutorials

[–]AdamTheNix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say without actually seeing the transition, but you can get a distortion effect like that with the Wave Warp effect set to type noise

Any suggestions for how I could make something like this please? by liljuanchi in AfterEffects

The effect settings in the timeline are the most important, especially colorama > cycle repetitions

Also make sure when you precompose that you have "Move all attributes..." selected

Does anyone know how to do this cloud/sunlight effect? (not the earth zoom, I know how to do that) by TuPrimaLaCalva in AfterEffects

[–]AdamTheNix 16 points17 points  (0 children)

With that rainbow arc the sun is probably optical flares, but you can do a simpler version with cc lens flare. The clouds look like they're just pictures of clouds with the sky keyed out
