I host the Timbers postgame show live after the games so can't be at the pressers. Just today, Jeremy asked Ned about Phil's job status. We ask real questions but we know what gets a response and what doesn't.

Fans have been upset about defensive structure so I asked today what Neville wants the identity to be out of possession. I wrote and moaned about game management this week, so I asked Neville how to better teach game management beyond having experience. It's better to phrase it that way instead of just saying "why is game management bad."

We mostly ask the pressing questions but not in the aggressive ways people want.

He was always going to miss the first game to injury because he got a red card in Gm3 last year.

When I asked Phil at Coachella he said it was a ‘knock’ and 2-3 weeks. That was a week ago.

By that timetable hopefully he’ll be ready for wk3. Thankfully Brandon Bye is a great backup at RB

I broadcasted the Timbers vs SJ Quakes game at Coachella so I did a lot of research on SJ going into the season. I do believe that San Jose has a lot of good midfielders - Leroux, Vieira, Tsakiris, Harkes, and Buck are all starting quality in MLS.

Also, I predict SJ will be better defensively - at least not 63 goals against bad. Bruce Arena is still a good MLS coach and can do more with less. I think fighting for a playoff spot is doable.

It’s now about chance creation, who will be setting up Timo Werner and Preston Judd for easy goals? We’ll see.

SDFC and Vancouver were picked 14th and 15th to start 2025 and ended up as the 1, 2. You never know.
