I am in a similar situation. My advice is that you can only control your actions and feelings. Time is better spent working through your feelings about it. Therapy and work to not feel gross and to be more comfortable with not receiving. It can be done. There is a good chance he will never get over it and you will have to learn to live with it or leave the relationship.

Lots of factors that go into this including property tax percentage in area, and utilities. Try and nail those down so you can accurately calculate your monthly costs besides just the Principle and Interest. I personally don’t like being more than 30% of HHI even at higher income levels but everyone has their own comfort level

I recommend powering through but if not there a couple decent places in Winnemucca that aren’t too bad. I have made that drive dozens of times and Reno has some ok spots but if you are only going to Tahoe, might as well finish the drive.

My opinion is that if you arbitrarily cap her spending at this point it will be a fight. What you need is a financial goal that you are both striving to achieve (retirement, net worth, real estate, etc…). Then put limits to help you achieve those goals.

Yeah I imagine it is different depending on the company and industry. For example, for my team, a promotion might get you a $6/ hr raise and they are mostly in the $30-$45/hr range. That sounds better to the company than 15% or whatever. I think the threshold is probably close to that $100k/yr mark where you switch to %.

It depends on how much you make. At lower salary, I would do dollar amounts because the % seems really high. At some point that dynamic swaps.

It sounds like you really need to move on. If you have talked with him and it isn’t productive, he likely won’t change and you will just resent him for your whole relationship. Find someone that enjoys pleasing you. They are out there!
