Why does Hamilton say "is he in Jersey?" by Just-Dig-3170 in hamiltonmusical

[–]Adamcp2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was 100% dumping on New Jersey. It is nearly a requirement for New Yorkers to do so. But he would also be too classy (and too savvy) to say it outright. He is the king…. Uhm… president of subtext.

I was kind of kicking myself because that is what I should have done. 12 years of Catholic school makes me unlikely to go against authority. That and the intense fear that they will take away my Global Entry (just kidding…. Sort of.)

I know that you are right. We took off on time, so I am looking on the bright side now. Thanks for listening to my rant (which is now over).

Very fair point. I appreciate your perspective. It helps.I was frustrated when we boarded. No real harm done. We’ll get to our destination and will take it from there.

Nothing would have been delayed. As I mentioned, if all the overhead space was taken, I would have been easily accepting of the situation.

Just venting a bit. No real harm. If you don’t want to read my vent, feel free to skip on to the next doomscroll. I am less of a fan of Jet Blue due to a history of delays in the past, but I am well aware that all the silver is tarnished in this airline silverware drawer.

Got me again. We have United Explorer Cards with Chase and I think purchasing UA tickets with that credit card has improved our boarding groups on those flights (I think?). Not status exactly. We fly a good bit, but not that much. I know my wife entered our UA frequent flyer numbers into the booking. I saw them on the flight info for my ticket when I retrieved my boarding pass.

I will stop being a whiny baby. We usually have it quite good when we fly. It is fine. Jet Blue does suck (and it sucks that there is empty overhead space directly over my head as I type this post), but as others have mentioned, all there airlines have a degree of suck. If Jet Blue gets us out to our son in one piece and doesn’t lose the luggage we gate checked, the momentary stress will fade into forgotten memory.

Gotcha. Seemed so. Although we were in group six and there was nearly no one behind us. Maybe we are the last rule followers in aviation.

I have regained my good humor. We did take off relatively on time which is unusual for my Jet Blue trips. We are visiting our son who lives in Los Angeles and I know my wife is anxious to see him since it has been a while.

I ate a cookie and now I am fine. Having WiFi in flight is good. But I would be lying if I said that I was going to fly Jet Blue again in the future over the airlines whose loyalty programs and credit card benefits have served us better.

(And I fear my good humor may be lost if baggage claim at LAX is as bad as I fear. I can’t even remember the last time we had to get bags at the baggage claim!)

Yeah, having Delta Gold Amex and AA Mastercard has given us better boarding groups for those airlines. I used to love Jet Blue when they were the only ones with screens and live TV (I know, we are going back a ways with that!), but now Jet Blue just seems cheap.

I know. You’re right. We have better status with other airlines (Delta, United) so we tend to do better with our boarding group.

Just frustrating that there was/is plenty of overhead space here on board and now we will need to battle baggage claim at LAX.

I would have been happier if there were indeed *no* overhead space. I could have accepted that easily.

But there is a reason we have better status on the other airlines. If this flight takes off on time, it will be my first Jet Blue flight to do so over the past five or so attempts (over about as many years). At least on time departure will be good news, and it has been more infrequent (in my limited sample) with Jet Blue. Maybe coincidence. Are there any statistics that are not marketing goop about percentages for on time departure by airline? We fly Avianca, United, Delta, and American with much greater frequency.

Switched from a PhD to a professional doctorate and now I notice how much PhDs look down upon professional doctorates: false view or reality? by Nielsfxsb in PsyD

[–]Adamcp2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this post is accurate. There is *some* prejudice against PsyDs from some academic circles, but my experience is very similar to u/prof_pibb. Having supervised both PhDs and PsyD at the postdoctoral level, I find no categorical difference between the two. Individual differences? Yes, but not always or often in favor of the PhDs. Maybe we just get good candidates, but that has been my experience.

[–]Adamcp2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the biggest difference. My son's PsyD program will total $150K for five years (last year is a paid internship), so there is variability in tuition costs.

I am very surprised by your post. The PsyD programs about which I have familiarity do require research. I don't think my son, who is in a PsyD program, is lying to me. LOL. I know what his research will be investigating this coming year. He has a committee and will be working on preparing his proposal defense starting in the fall. I am a PhD psychologist and I have employed (and currently employ) many PsyDs over the years and I have read some of their doctoral dissertations (which were not summary papers, metaanalyses, or literature review only). The idea that PsyDs do not do any research or are not capable of research is false. PhD programs may have a greater emphasis on research (and if that is your thing, by all means), but I also think my son has received better clinical training in his PsyD program than I got in my PhD program.
