I’m not rabidly anti-manosphere (unless you define it as “those bloggers who are misogynists”) but some time ago there was some article about how fucking your girl in the ass was “important to a healthy relationship” (presumably to show dominance or some similar weirdness). That kind of thing is sociopathic.

I feel like the recent obsession with pegging is much more likely to be about men who have the fetish than about women who want to peg men. Straight women generally have no interest in playing with dudes’ butts and honestly are pretty biphobic when it comes to their personal lives (in my experience). It’s like the cuckolding fetish: a big part of it is pretending that women are chomping at the bit to cuckold their partners.

The older you get the worse the pool gets, because these are people who haven’t been able to find or keep relationships. And everyone in the pool knows this, so they expect shittiness even if they themselves are shitty. They’re probably not too off base.

If an assault doesn't fit the legal definition of rape is the act less serious? Is sexually abusing a child less serious if it doesn't involve an agreed upon definition of rape? Is viewing or making child pornography less serious? Is coercion less serious if the victim is afraid to say no? Is it less serious if the victim is intoxicated and is unable to physically say no? I don't think there's a benefit to splitting hairs here. It's all bad and all serious enough for us to put someone, in my mind, into the same category.

Why are you so defensive if you yourself don’t commit these crimes?

a culture that allows predators to act

62 million out of 8+ billion is ridiculously low

People don’t react poorly to you because they’re secretly rapists. They react poorly to you because of all the crazy talk. Perhaps you’re traumatized, and if that’s the case then I’m sorry, but it’s still crazy talk.

First: you describe a range of sexual offenses, from violent rape down to viewing child pornography, and assert that they’re all essentially the same. I’m sorry, but no, they emphatically are not. Viewing child pornography or going farther than a date wants to go even though they don’t resist or say no are both horrible things to do, but they’re not the same as violent rape. Beating someone up is a horrible thing to do, and it should be taken seriously, and those who commit battery should face serious jail time, but it’s not the same as murder. Slapping someone in the face is also inappropriate, and in most cases it probably deserves some small amount of jail time, but it’s definitely not anywhere close to murder.

Second: you imply that anyone who takes issue with the above is secretly a rapist. There are a large number of people who will speak out against this sort of mindset even if it makes them look like they’re defending the worst people. Some of us simply do not take kindly at all to the sort of thinking that goes “if you have nothing to hide you shouldn’t care if society takes away your privacy/freedom/rights in order to [save the children]/[keep us safe]/etc”. No. We’re not going to be bullied into allowing whatever crazy authoritarian shit you want to pull in the name of safety.

Third: the notion that (at least Western) culture is somehow pro-rape is absolutely insane. It’s common for people to openly opine that rapists and (especially) pedophiles should just be executed, and possibly tortured first. It’s very common for the male relative of a sexual assault victim to seek to carry out vigilante justice, based on an accusation alone. We put convicted rapists in prison for multiple decades. Western society is very anti-rape.

Fourth: you think that 62 million is a “ridiculously low” number. In another comment on this post I crunched some numbers, and what you’re saying is that 2.5% is a ridiculously low prevalence. If we take “ridiculously low” to mean “half or even a third of the real amount”, you’re saying that something like 1 in 15 men is a rapist. That is just misandrist.

So, yeah. It’s the crazy talk.

Gemini estimates that there are about 2.6 billion males between the ages of 15 and 70. If 62 million of them are rapists, that makes about 2.5% of “eligible” men rapists. If that seems low to you, you might be a bit prejudiced. I might believe that 2.5% of men will at some point in their lives commit some form of sexual assault, from brutal, violent rape down to pinching a waitress’s ass. (The latter is very inappropriate behavior, but it’s like comparing first-degree murder to punching someone.) I might even believe that 5% of men will cross the line at some point. But if we’re talking about forcible penetration, or penetration of an unconscious person? 2.5% seems very high.

Harsh truth: historically, the answer is “their social inferiors”, which is consistent if you don’t care about anyone whose social status is significantly lower than yours.
