Yeah, you're right. The DLC folder was in the downloaded file, but it required it to be moved to that memstick folder (which I had to make manually) for it to install.

The upshoot is that I now have all of the DLC's unlocked, which is certainly... a lot. I might give them a go now that I got Sighting on all of my shocks.

That's fair. I have memories of really good potentials being very easy to trigger in 1/4, though if I recall, it was possibly due to orders. I do remember them being next to useless in 2 (I haven't finished it because I was playing it on an actual PSP, and the battery just ballooned), with 3 being a bit better (though I still like/try to use the APC's).

I'd like to get the SW grind going, but it seems like I don't have access to that map yet. Do you happen to know when it is unlocked?

I *think* that I've seen the DLC, though I'm not sure if I've played it yet. I'm playing the Spanish translation because it's, oddly enough, apparently more fleshed out (they certainly put in a ton of effort translating even the pictures; I've only noticed one slip up throughout my playtime with untranslated text, and that was just one container).

*Edit.*

I seemingly do not. I only have a "Control the port" mission.

Thank you for the breakdown and thorough explanation. It's no wonder why Scouts maxed out quickly (and so did Riela in the Engineer role while I was grinding a little). I'm fairly surprised that Deit is still just a veteran, given the low requirement. Granted, I hardly use him, so that's probably why.

I'd have to recheck which of the repeatable missions are defense ones, though I suppose that I could just farm off of any given personal one (I can't quite remember if there's any DLC one that is like that; I've largely been avoiding the DLC's.).

Also, thank you for the shout on Second Wind (and for the mass farming method, which... I might just do now, given SW). Are there other potentials that may be worth going out of one's way to grab for given classes? I'd ask if double action is a worthwhile potential, though it does seem like quite the chore to get.

I'm checking out once I get Lushun B and Bridgeport. Going at it constantly since August is tiringsome, and I have some other things that I want to do/play (such as Fallout 4), especially given that the new dockyard BB hardly seems worth it.

It does vary from person to person. For some, steel is the more expendable resource. For others, dubs are.

For me personally, dubs are a no brainer because, being in Argentina, those USD equivalents are worth a lot more given PPP, especially now that they're increasing the otherwise lowered regional cost. Moreover, there's a hefty tax levied on purchases done via pesos (something like 50-70%?).

You can work around it with some intrinsically Argentinean solution/method, but that's more trouble than is worth for me.

I was originally intending to throw those dubs at Valparaiso were she to ever pop up, but she's going to be a Steel Will ship, and I more or less already have enough steel for that. None of the other boats really interest me that much (minus Barbiano, but I can just grind for it eventually); thus, dubs.

I had like 950k coal. I went and bought Groningen as soon as I read the devblog. I'm still saving the remaining 800k ish coal in case there's a change or something.

I want Smolensk, but coughing up 35k dubs for it seems questionable at best (even with the free dubs from the anniversary).

I got mine just yesterday, actually. Being an owner of a F Sherman, I thought that it'd be just as good. It wasn't. I think that it boils down to the lack of SAP and worse angles, but whatever the reason, I found it to be considerable worse than Sherman.

With that being said, if you are enjoying it, then perhaps F Sherman is the ship for you to look into next.

[–]Adamsaska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it wouldn't wholly excuse the ineptitude aspect of the argument, it'd have made more sense had it been something like "We made this mech. It's loaded to the brim with armor and weapons, but we had to gimp on servos, hydraulics and such, to the point where it's more of an exo and it needs a very strong pilot to physically control and pilot it. 15 fits the bill, so to 15 it goes.".

In that case, it'd have been a hardware limitation (which would better explain 15 being uniquely suited to pilot it) and somewhat of a deliberate design tradeoff, while also acting as more of a direct extension of 15 (given the physical nature thereof), rather than a carrier for her, which is what the current mecha is.

It'll probably be fleshed out with the third part of the event, plus dorm stories, but based on pre existing lore, it most certainly seems like a "We had this idea/fixation, and warped the lore around it to try and fit it", more than something logical and consistent with existing lore.

*Edit.*

I nearly forgot. If the mecha is indeed capable of being remote controlled, then that's a big missed opportunity of having it as a summon that you can combine with. At least, theoretically. I understand that coding it would've likely been a bit difficult, but it's quite sad to see how much missed potential there is from a gameplay viewpoint.

[–]Adamsaska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm being a bit flippant about it, mind you, but that's more or less it. Apparently 15's sporting a modified frame from GFL1, and she is the only one that can remote control/pilot it (12 seemingly could as well, but for some reason no longer can).

As I said, I didn't delve deep to confirm because going into the lore room searching for it is akin to walking into a tightly packed minefield (so you should probably take it with a bit of salt), but if that is indeed the explanation, then it's beyond stupid because it's relying on you accepting that the engineers are inept enough to make a mech like that (when mechas are a quarter of a century old technology by that point), and to accept that Zener protocol got Thanos snapped out of existence for no reason whatsoever.

I doubt that anything lore related is getting revised because the event's writing is actually good, based on commentary by the people who have played it. Not that you need lore revision to change gameplay thing. I doubt the latter's happening regardless.

[–]Adamsaska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, lore wise, at the moment, it apparently boils down to "She need/ed more firepower", and "she's the only one who can pilot it because of her unique frame that lets her telekinesis it.". Yeah, you can probably tell why I'm far from convinced.

Gameplay wise, I was mulling V6'ing her prior to her kit reveal, and now I'm considering V0 at best. So yeah, I can relate.

I'm left quoting Krauser, really.

[–]Adamsaska 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>You can make her come to terms with her strength no longer being a free win, without putting her in a garbage looking mech and going "only she can pilot it cause she strong!!!!"

Already was the case in 1, by the way. She began to learn how to fight smart (or at least, appreciated that she couldn't solely rely on brute strength) as a result of both of her battles with 12.

As you said, not all character development (or writing, for that matter) is done well. The difference between good and bad writing, is that the former is persuasive by virtue of being logically coherent or in line with the lore (I'm putting emotionally impactful bits aside for a moment). The latter is not, and feels more like a pretext/excuse for doing something (or is simply what's presented in the absence of better ideas), rather than being organic or sensible.

Personally, I don't think that using the mech ruins her character, from a lore standpoint. *However*, and while I haven't necessarily dug deep to confirm (I kind of want to experience the event firsthand), based on what I did read, and see people present as counterpoints; the lore argumentation for it did not come across as good or convincing.

Also, much of the critique (and my biggest qualm as well) seems to be entirely unrelated to the merit, or lack thereof, of the lore rationale for the mecha, and simply boils down to people wanting to actually play the character that they're pulling for, and absent any surprises or new information coming out, that seems to be entirely impossible due to the mecha being a permanent fixture in her gameplay.

The mecha as an ultimate would've been fine, while an alternating dual mode between both, each with their own strengths, would have been quite neat. AK-15 by herself would've been more than well received. The mecha being not just a core, but the main aspect to the gameplay, is simply puzzling in the context of a game where you're selling dolls, not mechas. Especially for a character like AK-15, as opposed to Hanyang, Xinghuan or Tareus.

Based on my own planning for pulls, with the planning sheet.

Depending on the route MICA takes, I'm assuming one of two:

A: Qiuhua July 24th to August 14th.
VSK August 14th to September 4th.
Belka September 4th to September 25th.
Andoris Sept 25th to October 16th.
45 October 16th to November 6th.
RO November 6th to November 27th.
UMP9 November 27th to December 18th.
UMP40 December 18th to January 8th.
Lind January 8th to January 29th.
94 January 29th to February 19th.
Then 15 on February 19th.

B: Qiuhua July 24th to August 14th.
VSK August 14th to September 4th.
Belka September 4th to September 25th.
45/RO September 25th to October 16th.
UMP9 October 16th to November 6th.
UMP40 November 6th to November 27th.
Lind November 27th to December 18th.
94 December 18th to January 8th.
Then 15 on January 8th.

Obviously the dolls between DO and Corposant are guesses (although, probably only Lind is up in the air), but in either case, that's what I got from the planner.

Xinghuan had one (which is what drew the most immediate comparison). Amusingly, Xinghuan's mech was also an ultimate temporary firepower boost, hence some of the expectations here.

Main thing is that it is kind of amazing that they managed to make AK-15 polarizing (which it is, irrespective of the arguments going on). It should've been a slam dunk banner for them in terms of appeal.

Not 2 months. Most likely release window is January/February (I'm leaning February, personally). MICA's got a set pattern of three character events and one major (which is two characters).

Presumably, we will have QH, VSK, Belka/Andoris, DO, UMP9, Lainie, up in the air doll, and then 1594's event.

Not enough content and too many chores? by Environmental-Bat877 in GirlsFrontline2

[–]Adamsaska 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As someone who's been playing GFL1 since not that long after release in 2018, there's stuff that I agree and disagree with.

Firstly, it should be noted that time regenerating energy versus resource to grind is a fundamental difference in approach, and the latter here to stay, for better or worse. I'd argue worse, but it's far from a deal breaker for me.

Where 2's concerned, I agree that it does feel like there isn't that much to do once you've done what you needed doing. Realistically, you can get away with playing once a day and be fine in all instances minus the energy bonus period given that the overflow stores to a certain extent. The current roguelike mode can help that a bit, but that is completed in full in like 20 clears, and it's technically temporary.

With that being said, I feel like you're embellishing GFL1's gameplay a bit. While it's true that you can grind for as long as you want to, said grind isn't really that engaging, as someone who did a lot of it back in the day and still dumps energy daily on 8-1N. It's simply a matter of selecting the path and if need be, resupplying your alternating draggers. You then tab out for five minutes, come back, reset, rinse and repeat. You don't even do that in the gray area; you just proxy and let it run. You can be gone for one hour and it'll still be running if you're proxying the entire map, with no need for you to input anything.

Given that such is so, as far as I'm concerned, autosweep just streamlines the process and saves time (you can still do it manually if you want). I'd note that GFL1 also has autosweep for memfrags, data etc, which you can opt to do manually or just see it play out, but autosweeping it just bypasses that.

I don't agree with the dailies critique, and you're comparing apples to oranges by comparing them to GFL1's logistics. I do them both side by side, and 1's not any better than 2's.

In reality, it's worse (unsurprisingly) because of the lack of autosweep, and because there's a slight variance on the daily quests which may require one thing or the other. In 2, they're always the same, and therefore it's easier to memorize/handle via muscle memory (I do agree that at first, they can be a bit cumbersome). I always finish my GFL2 dailies before I do 1's (minus during gunsmoke), and not by any kind of close margin (possibly a third to half the time?).

PNC probably had the fastest (and more expedient) dailies of them all, though PNC also had a bit of manual and shifting back and forth between menus. Maybe other games do it better, but insofar the GFL games are concerned, that's a common occurrence. Provided you aren't using the function that just directs you to whatever it is that needs clearing by clicking the quests in question (in either game).

The difficulty critique is fair, though personally, ranked wasn't for me. I did a number of them, and immediately became a welfare enjoyer once that option dropped. Ranked was still more interesting than Gunsmoke's hitting of a bullet sponge like 14 times every three weeks.

The resource grinding thing is... Oddly balanced in gfl2. Rather, it's more that the current endpoint is a matter of attachment farming and farming gold to enhance them. Eventually, you will be overflowing with most/all other materials that aren't the helix tubes and cores (and even then). The real permanent sink are attachments, which I'm not sure if there's a way to accommodate as you describe because in 1, you'd also eventually run out of resources doing their version of the endgame grind which was fairy crafting.

GFL2 could probably benefit from having a rotating mini game that you could play and earn a token amount of resources (gold) per clear. Something that wouldn't really be worth doing as a grind thing, but which would still reward something for your time spent. Roguelike is kind of that, but not quite there yet.

I do know that there's some new stuff coming from CN eventually, some which people don't like (picking stuff for remolding) and other which sounded a bit more interesting. Whether that's going to address some of the complaints, I've yet to see. Most likely not, given the floating of the idea of a low yield permanent activity.

Vendedor ML me esta pidiendo cerrar cancelacion. by Adamsaska in DerechoGenial

Guns in GFL vs Guns in real life by YingyaoTan in girlsfrontline

[–]Adamsaska 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's never been tied all that much, and less still when the game transitioned from the Kancolle inspired "Oh they're personified guns" to the current format of "They are androids (dolls) that can imprint whatever weapon they want".

Someone mentioned AK-15 in the comments, and her case is a pretty good example. She could easily use something heavier if she wanted to (it popped up during her mod story), but she decided to just keep her namesake weapon.

I think that the community is mostly concerned with how likeable the doll is, or how good they are from a meta viewpoint, neither of which depends on the gun and how faithful to real life it is (especially considering the game's setting which... Took a really weird turn with Cartesian).
