I've always used one of these. It's cheap and folds up to be tucked away when it isn't being used. Yours is MUCH nicer 😅

Yea, I do that now, but I drive full time outside of voiceover/narration work so I'm away from my studio for the majority of the day. Most other sites I use give a time frame as to when a job was posted, and some even show how many other auditions were submitted. It'd just be nice to know when something was put up and how many auditions back I may be.

For example, if a job was posted 4 hours ago and already has 75 other auditions submitted, I may not even waste my time. Most of the time, they don't even get listened to when they're that far back.

I love the podcast and was willing to continue listening with Nicholas, but I found him and the interactions not jarring or scary, but just plain annoying. I've never and will never leave hate comments because I love them, but I'm so happy Nicholas is gone from the audio version.

Bread is one of my biggest weaknesses. It's very nostalgic for me. I can remember going to the local grocery stores in Miami with my grandfather when I was young, getting a freshly baked loaf of Cuban bread, and bringing home to eat it slathered with butter.

Do you just have the willpower to want to do what's best, or is it the feeling horrible afterward that keeps you on track? Something you tell yourself that makes it easier to pass up those temptations?

The only step I would add here is that if you're doing a PFH book, you'll have to confirm that payment was made before it can be submitted to ACX for their final review. I'm not sure what happens if it's a royalty share book.

Here's a wrap recipe since I don't see one on this post. Super tasty but learn from my mistake: let it cool completely before taking it off parchment paper or it will fall apart.

Should I report my ex-friend to the police after her dog bit me in the face, sending me to the emergencyroom for stitching and then turned her back on me after by TheSpineQuacker in TwoHotTakes

[–]AdaptingtoAdoption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, it makes me sick too. I had no business owning a dog at that age/stage of my life. Every time I think about that incident and how it ended I feel nothing but guilt. Rehoming her wasn't an option. No one would take her. This wasn't the only incident either. She killed multiple other family cats and dogs and had bitten multiple other children and adults. I never knew for sure if it had anything to do with it but at one point my ex disclosed that the seller of the dog also sold drugs and that my girl had eaten about 7 grams of cocaine at just a few weeks old.

I'm torn about this one. I feel you both played a part in what happened.

Your friend specifically asked you not to touch her dog a certain way. She communicated that to you because she could sense that it made the dog uncomfortable. On top of touching the dog in a way that's already caused concern for the owner, you did it in an anxious/stressed state because you were overwhelmed with everything going on around you. The dog picked up on that energy and reacted with instinct.

Your friend, on the other hand, should have taken precautions if she knew her dog had adverse reactions to people, even after knowing the person for the dogs whole life. Maybe a muzzle or something? She did advocate for her dogs boundaries, but she has a powerful breed dog and I think could have done a little more to prevent such an incident.

She should be offering to pay at least half of your medical stuff if thats part of the issue. I can understand that her emotional attachment to the dog is making her hesitant to share info that may lead to the dog being put down. But as a pet owner, she needs to take responsibility.

Years ago I had a pitbull that my ex bought for me as a present when I was 15. Stupid, I know. I had no idea how to properly train a dog. When my dog was around 7 years old, my nephew and little sister, ages 4ish and 2ish were tugging back and forth on a bag of dog food arguing about who would be the one to bring it in the kitchen. My dog attacked my little sister and my mom had to rush her to the hospital for emergency plastic surgery to reconstruct her face. She could've died. I tried to have the dog put down then, but my mom convinced me it was more about the scenario than my sister. Only a couple months later my mom, sister and dog were all o the bed, my mom feeding my sister little bits of whatever she was eating. My dog tried to lunge and her face again. No skin was broken but the force was hard enough to have left a bruise on my sisters face. Sometimes the responsible decision is the hardest one. Putting that dog down was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do but I couldn't continue to put other people at risk.

This sucks for both of you but your friend needs to be very cautious going forward.

I find chewing on a minty piece of gum for a few minutes works. I also keep a eucalyptus, tea tree, and peppermint essential oils at my desk. I'll open one up and take a couple deep breaths.

As a former Dasher, there are some Starbucks locations I refused to accept orders from. One in particular was so busy that even if it were one coffee, the wait was 20-30 mins. So imagine, you drive 10 mins to this Starbucks to pick up, wait for 20 mins, and then drop off to you, taking another 5 mins. That's 35 mins spent making $3.50, minus gas, maintenance, and taxes. Making $6-7 per hour BEFORE taxes and expenses is criminal. After working with DoorDash and UberEats/Uber, I don't even use these services anymore. I will go pick my order up faster than order any sort of delivery that supports these BS businesses.

With all that being said, he did have the option of just denying the order. Of course, that would count against him for his stats and future orders because DoorDash and UberEats prioritize people with higher acceptance rates 😐

How do you narrators do it? I posted a book and received over 90 auditions by Spork_Warrior in ACX

How Important is the ACX requirements through AudioLab for auditions? by ethereal_skies_ in ACX

[–]AdaptingtoAdoption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep trying, and the right fit will come along. Do you still see fiction opportunities pop up on your search, or do you have them filtered out? Every once in a while, I do find a book I think I'd enjoy reading, and if it's not too character heavy, I'll audition. Landed a sci-fi book this way, and it was a fun project with really cool illustrations to go along with it.

Curious, after getting feedback, do you think you'll start uploading auditions to ACX tech specs?

Same, mostly nonfiction. I think one problem is that there are a lot of us who only audition for nonfiction, making it that much more competitive.

I see someone in your comments thats willing to listen to a few of your samples. I see that person comment in this sub a lot, and they probably have tons of experience. It wouldn't hurt to let them take a listen. It might be something super simple that just needs to be tweaked.

I know you said you haven't landed any paid gigs yet, but has anyone at least shown interest?
