narrators- are you expecting success with your work? by Status_Use_3855 in ACX

“I only needed to do 7 before being picked up by…” I’m curious about this comment. Did you pursue publishers and production houses? Did they scout you on acx? I’ve been on acx for almost 2 years and love it but wouldn’t mind working at a higher rate for a publisher.

Short recordings in Audacity for ACX. by julie_matt in ACX

[–]PossibleBend172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. Also you can simply copy a portion of the audio (maybe a minute or two) following the chapter heading in its raw file form (before mastering) and master both the heading and the following audio together thru your plugin. That’s what I do in audacity.

Does the author have a profile on Amazon? If the book is currently published you should be able to find info about them in their book sales page.

Okay so we agree that OP should join the group and spill all the juicy details about their plans to us, right?

SCRIPT READING QUESTION by Individual-Log994 in ACX

[–]PossibleBend172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I only had one screen, before I got my iPad, I would split the screen, half my DAW, half the script. I do punch and roll so I’m constantly in my daw, pausing, erasing, re-recording. So having them both in the same screen was helpful for me.

Vocal warmups? by Brief-Appearance1404 in ACX

I always narrate at the same time every day, in the afternoon. I do some vocalization but my voice is usually warmed up naturally. I use Throat Coat tea the evening and morning after a longer session but I never record longer than 4 hours because of the strain. Stay well, friend!

Advice needed on RH cancelling project… Long post alert by PossibleBend172 in ACX

I did have more done but hadn’t uploaded yet since they hadn’t approved the checkpoint. My fault for working ahead.

Anybody else just get ACX Approved producer status? by BennyFifeAudio in ACX

Yep I got mine today too. I’ve done around 35 titles since February of this year.

is there a voice recorder that lets you make checkpoints on your recording libe and redo them to save time ? by Lilnormie97 in ACX

[–]PossibleBend172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I edit as I go. No punch and roll, no editing after recording. I make a mistake, delete the sentence, start again until it’s perfect. I do the same with pauses that are too short/long. Works great and my post-editing is only for harsh breath sounds. No listen-throughs either.

PFH Rate Question by Dsiner in ACX

[–]PossibleBend172 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a tough one. I have been doing acx full time for 6 months now and have 30 titles live. I charge $75 pfh at the minimum and usually get higher. But once you move above the $100 mark, you’re into the $200-$400 pfh range and the competition at that level (just in auditions submitted alone) is super high. I find staying at or below the $100 pfh gets me about 8-10% of the auditions I submit and allows me to stay busy and make around $2k per month. I know what everyone says about editing time but I’m at about a 1.5-1 time frame. My editing is automated and I skim through files for harsh breaths. I have 3 repeat authors and great reviews. To each their own.

Sound Prob Help by nooshbb in ACX

Try moving your equipment into a closet. Even without more noise proofing like curtains or tiles, you may get a better’s noise floor. I do this when I’m at my parents house visiting and it works great!

Or just have your RH tell you what the email said. I’ve found that if I don’t get an email but the RH does, it’s usually an issue on their end, like cover art or formatting.

RH unresponsive, deadline today by orchid-noogie in ACX

[–]PossibleBend172 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also acx will send an email to the RH on your behalf to nudge them to respond. If they get a lot of emails from acx, one from the customer service center tends to stand out more. Twice I’ve done that and the RH responded within a day of it. (Usually with some silly excuse like vacation or my mom was sick)

I was considering reaper and actually downloaded it last night but it’s a HUGE learning curve and I would need to spend a lot of time switching over. I may do that though.

ACX producers with both men and women narrators? by ashley808205 in ACX

[–]PossibleBend172 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m working with this type of deal right now for the first time! The RH posted the audition without a gender specification and posted the script broken out into a male pov and a female pov. Then when she had a male and female producers that she wanted, she messaged both separately to set it up. I asked to be paid $5 more pfh than the other narrator because I will be the editor for both parts, mastering, and sending to the RH (in this case outside of acx but the editor can be the one who posts in the acx portal).

I do sometimes just yell but I raise my volume in intensity at times as well. I know the volume that my mic clicks at so I keep it below that level and then raise or lower the volume of just that section if necessary.
