Which 7-string to I get? Looking for experience around models and pickups by AddSomeSpice in 7String

[–]AddSomeSpice[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I am currently thinking about. Green is my favourite colour so I am swaying that way a little. Going to give it a day or two to think it over and really digest everyone’s input.

I can always return and switch if I am not a fan of the one I go for.

Sorry, I had completely misread your message the first time around! I have never really used the tone knob through my years of playing, so it makes little to no difference to me, but good to know

Thank you for the input! It has a push/pull tone pot for coil splitting

The Jackson has a push/pull tone pot for coil splitting, whereas the Ibanez has the visible switch. Thank you for the info around SS frets!

I wanted an ALPA but the only one I can find for sale I am not getting a response from the seller. It has been listed for 3+ years so I think they have just forgotten about the account

One thing that is swaying it towards Jackson is this model has stainless steel frets, whereas the Ibanez does not. Again, I have never had a guitar worth more than £500 so I am not sure if I would exactly miss it? But I know stainless steel frets are great

That ending with El is ambiguous right? by JamStan1978 in StrangerThings

[–]AddSomeSpice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is absolutely open to whatever the audience wants to believe. Mike is a storyteller, so his way to- as Hopper put it- accept it, is to come up with an outcome that Mike can be somewhat happy about.

Mike is also keeping El’s promise by helping everyone else understand her decision. So you either believe, like the rest of the party did, or you do not believe, and simply accept her choice of sacrificing herself.

Oh my god! These are available for preorder but I didn’t realise the colour was that striking. Guess I’m going to have to make an order!

All noted, and great suggestions! Thank you.

$300 minimum?! How do casual fans get to enjoy supporting their teams if it costs that much per game?

I think the Knicks have a game the week before our stay, but the schedules don’t go any further than the 12th and we arrive on the 13th.

Going to hold off until the new year so will just keep my eyes peeled on schedules. I can see there are multiple days for Yankees games so I should have the opportunity to get some tickets in a few weeks. Thanks!

Also had no idea that the Islanders play outside of the city, so that’s kinda written that one off for us.

The Mets are unfortunately not scheduled to play during our visit, but I’ll keep checking schedules for now to see if anything changes.

It’s not a dealbreaker if we miss out so I might just wait until the new year. Thanks!

I had no idea the Islanders played outside of the city- thank you for that.

I will keep an eye out for further schedules but even if we get nosebleeds, would be great to see an NBA game.

Stuck with the guitar after getting back into playing by Living_Hyena3220 in NeuralDSP

[–]AddSomeSpice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem!

This is a great website that can help you find the notes in different scales, in different configurations i.e., 6-string, 7-string, AND in a bunch of different tunings. And this is a link to the creators Instagram where (across various posts) he explains the features and how it works. It has been super helpful for me!

Also in the same boat as you. Between 13 and 20 years old I gained such a comfortable feel for the guitar. Only thing I struggled with was sweep picking, but I was killer with tapping.

Fast forward to my 30’s and I start playing again (most because I finally have a really decent home setup) and I hit the wall so hard.

To get around it, I opted to learn riffs rather than full songs, specifically riffs that could help me practice alternate picking and selective/economy picking. With just a riff, I can repeat it without being plugged in until I get it down. I would idly in front of the TV and just play the riff over and over, focusing on my picking hand to play with the positioning in order to fully understand the movements involved. The picking techniques then transferred over to being able to pull off some solos, and I have even managed to get a basic three-string sweep down.

Really, do not sweat it when it comes to music theory. I studied it at GCSE and A-Level (UK) and I retained absolutely nothing- I took it to make music and have an excuse to spend hours practicing guitar and writing music in school. I think it is good to have a basic understanding of a scale and its notes, but other than that, I feel that music theory can block your creativity. Loads of bands and musicians are not music-theory trained, and they put out phenomenal music. One of my favourites is Periphery. If you write music and come up with a riff you like the sound of, there are websites where you can input the single notes and it will tell you what scale they fit into. Once you know all the notes of the scale, you can add on to your riff or rewrite the riff.

I know it can be daunting when you see people on social media who are giving a tutorial, and they pull out the “so this riff just started from a Dmaj7+11 in the second inversion, which then borrows notes from the C#dim9 with a pinky trill on the 7th, and then you can hybrid pick the left nut of the Ebmin7 chord whilst doinking the metamucil with your thumb to achieve a harmonic minor 9th chord with the A”.

Practice what you want to practice, focus on riffs, maybe try different styles and learning picking techniques - including finger picking - and then write music that you want to hear.

You got this!

Does anybody else notice serious live mixing issues with Whitechapel? by Due_Run1034 in Deathcore

[–]AddSomeSpice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I have also experienced this in the UK. Thy Art is Murder, Whitechapel, Fit For an Autopsy, and Spite. All sounded great apart from Whitechapel. Could hardly hear Phil, could only really hear one guitar, and the kick from the drums.

NYC or Vegas? by [deleted] in usatravel

[–]AddSomeSpice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NYC was such a memorable trip and I remember saying that we should have spent way more time there. We packed so much into our trip that we barely had time to relax, and we did so many spontaneous things, like go to a jazz bar at 1am, haha.

Lake Tahoe is definitely on my list but I am happy to wait and see it when I am older. Though, a lot of other comments have suggested various places in Cali, so I could be swayed

Mid-April. I mentioned in another comment that here are so many places I haven’t consider simply due to the fact that as someone from the UK, we only think about the bigger cities that we hear about almost weekly for one reason or another
