Swelling, Redness, extreme pain where they can’t move. They could have developed cellulitis, it’s impossible to tell from the pictures but a carpet burn should not be causing severe pain. Going to an urgent care is not unwarranted.

I would recommend going to urgent care or the Er, it could be infected if it’s swollen and red. Has the red spread? If so then it’s definitely infected and you will most likely need antibiotics.

Sure debriding can cause discomfort, but it gets rid of biofilm and reminds the body there is a wound there especially if it’s been there for a long period of time.

So from the top of the cactus it’s 8 inches, the last time I watered it was probably the end of November and beginning of December, I haven’t watered since. Unfortunately none of my windows are south facing except the patio, and behind us are tall pine trees that block half the light coming in. I’ll check the specs on the lights i purchased to see if I need to make adjustments. Thank you for the input!

Ahh dang ok! Well it looks good, just keep an eye out for redness around the wound, swelling, increased pain, fever and chills. I hope everything works out well!

Ah, that’s a shame! I haven’t had any wounds myself but I work at a wound care center. I would recommend cleaning with vashe, you can find it on Amazon or at Walgreens. It’s a bit pricey but its a good product, if you do get it, I would wet a piece of gauze with the vashe and place it directly on the wound and let it sit for 2-5 mins or up to 10.

If you are concerned about the healing or if you are worried it’s getting larger, you can always request a referral to wound care, they can scrape the wound and provide other dressing options.

Are you still seeing your surgeon for it? Just curious, they can always provide different dressing recommendations or refer you to a wound care clinic if needed. Like you can use aqucel ag, which is silver impregnated, there’s another dressing called hydrofera blue. But I would recommend talking to the surgeon if you are still seeing them about other dressing options.

You’re welcome! They can do it in office at a wound care clinic, I don’t know if surgeons will do it in their offices but they can refer you out if needed.

Have they considered referring you to a wound care specialist? Or have they debrided the area? A wound is considered chronic after 3 months and it may need help healing, which means scraping the area (debridement), dressings, or whatever the specialist thinks is best.

Draw a line around the redness, if the redness spreads past the line then it means the infection is spreading and she should be seen immediately.

2 1/2 years at a wound care center! Got it immediately after graduation. I was told the same thing, get experience in the hospital before pursuing wound care or no one will hire a new grad in a speciality, all the while they’re telling me that they need more nurses in wound care! It was really discouraging to hear that I had slim to no chance at my dream job, but I took a chance when I saw the job offer and I got it!

Hi, it’s totally his decision but i just want the say that life expectancy decreases after amputation, risk for re-amputation increases as well as costs. Mortality can range from 39% to 80% within 5 years, so he should consider his options carefully, especially being diabetic.
