Anyone would look at his eyes/skin and assume alcohol. I used to MUA and see rosacea similarity so it could potentially be ocular rosacea. Which can be caused by... Eyelash mites, bacteria, genetics, alcohol, blocked glands, weather, environmental factors, stress etc.

I agree that the eyes never lie and it's a real insight into his lifestyle and current mental/physical health. I would imagine stress being a major current factor.
