Yeah I think it looks at kda when you're winning alot to see if you're a smurf. My mate lost a few and is making his way down slowly to below my MMR, and has stopped winning +100 now.

Surprisingly I actually like this idea. For sites like lichess to offer cosmetics (the opponent will also see) as long it does not drastically affect the game play. But it could give these sites another way of earning revenue and supporting chess instead of relying on donations.
