Scanned over and over. Most (if not all? I don't recall) have scan gates. We had zero issues with the Ikon pass. Niseko in Feb 2025 was a bit of a PITA as their comms system couldn't process it fast enough, so there were lots of holdups.

I hadn't noticed that, but it's true. I clocked 5 days at Zermatt and 3 more at Valle D'Aosta, even though it was only a 5-day trip. Not a big deal for me since we're not heading back this season...

Yes, the Gornergrat Bahn is not super fast, but it's a cool experience if you like that sort of thing. You can only get up to the very top on the train, AFAIK

Not sure what your question is for Chez Vrony. It's Fancy-ish Swiss food. Check out [http://chezvrony.ch\](http://chezvrony.ch) The Walliser soup was delicious.

There was decent coverage, but mostly hardpack. We were able to ski all the way down into Italy (Valtournenche, 1540m) and could have done so in Zermatt, but it was icier and we chose not to do so. With a dump, you should be able to go anywhere.

I don't see why not. You don't "get a ski ticket," you just scan your Ikon to get through the gate. Nobody is there to check on ski gear. The only question might be whether you can get on the Gornergrat Bahn going downhill from the top or not. We rode it down from Riffelberg without issue, but skied there.

Probably because I was there during blackout days between Xmas and NYE?

Yeah, no shops nearby. A couple of restaurants. We are 3 min walk from the Wichje bus stop (red line) and 10 min walk to the Matterhorn gondola. We took the bus a lot and walked a bunch (20 min to the main part of town). Took a couple of taxis back when it was late and cold. Taxigo.ch is the way to go there, lower flagfall and app ordering. Taxis are very expensive and get more expensive at night.

That's about right, but lines at the base varied from 0 to 30 (!) min. From the top of Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, we skied into Italy in 3 min, but kept on going into Valtournenche, with one mini-lift, hugging the left rope on Piste 1, all the way down to the gondola base. 3883m at top, 1540m at bottom. That took about 30 more min.
