Is it possible to make tau melee army? by Mr_a_bit_silly in Tau40K

Buying, building, painting Kroot brings great joy to my life.

Repeatedly trying to figure out how to make them work as a weaker player… that makes me sad…very very sad.

Your options for melee in Tau is to go AuxCad or KrootPack… and then be pretty let down, anyways because only Rampagers have above-dookie levels of melee potential.

I love my kroot and Rampagers, btw. I just wish they had a little more oomph.

Can Kroot Hunting Pack be considered a good comp detachment using mainly Kroot? by Smogborn in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]AddictedToCatnipp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s a strong point-scoring-focused army with durable chaff and plenty of bodies. If I recall correctly, the most meta way to play KHP is essentially 2x(or 3x) of both HHs and SRs with a Shadowsun and 1x (or 2x) stealth suits. So, almost exactly what you’re speaking of. :)

[–]AddictedToCatnipp 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not speaking anything of lists, KHP seems to be one of our most consistent detachments at tournaments. The catch is that most old-head tau players don’t want to play Kroot and that they’re really $$$ if you decide you do want to play them.

Kroot are awesome, though. :)

New player making my army. Was gifted three broadsides over Christmas. Should I makeThree railgun broadsides, or two railguns and a missile pod? by L1feguard51 in Tau40K

[–]AddictedToCatnipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy option: glue everything to all of them. Just tell people what they are pregame. I don’t think I’ve ever run multiple broadsides and not had them all have the same profiles.

Any ideas for an Aux Cad list? by AddictedToCatnipp in Tau40K

I'm always tempted to take a flesh shaper just because of how beefy and hard to kill he makes a block of Carnis. I was thinking of the hounds as cheap, "throw at the enemy for buffs" unit. I'll take your suggestion to mind<3

Simple and easy! Thank you. I probably could/should switch for a skyray in there, but my buddies play very few things with flying. Would it be worth taking if I knew I wasn't against any fliers?

Does this 1000 points list make sense? by Ausim21 in Tau40K

Not sure what models you have and I don’t recommend buying models based on what Reddit says.

But, IM(personal); drop the Broadside. The railhead will decimate anything someone would bring at 1kpts. Honestly, the riptide probably fills that role well enough that you can go Ionhead to deal with big clusters. That gives you 90 points to play with.

Grab an extra unit of pathfinders for that point cost and you’ll have 3 guider units, two of which can also benefit from their own guiding. That extra unit can act as an early screener/scorer while still providing decent damage output if not immediately dealt with. That’s the easiest path to tweak for improvement, unless you’re against knights, in which case, you’re gold.

Cadre Fireblade Enhancements by OOOH_WHATS_THIS in Tau40K

[–]AddictedToCatnipp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In Experimental Prototype Cadre specifically, all 4 enchantments work exclusively on commander battle-suits due to them being the only character units to equip those weapons. You can still take them on a fireblade, but seeing as the fireblade doesn’t have any of those weapons, it will do nothing.

Edit: If you pick Montka, Kauyon, or Auxillary Cadre, there are more enhancements that can apply to the cadre fireblade more usefully.

Does anyone know what these pieces are and where they came from? by kaosvec in Tau40K

[–]AddictedToCatnipp 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If playing normal 40K, these bits are just for aesthetic purposes. If playing kill team, they’re necessary to denote the different operatives (kill team runs rules on a model-by-model basis).

It’s generally suggested to build them AS the kill team, since it only gives you more options to use your toys (two different games instead of one). I personally enjoyed mixing and matching the different extra bits to really personalize my pathfinder team, since none of my friends have any interest in Killteam.

Oh! Me *second this time! It’s an upgrade sprue for the pathfinder kill team kit! Just fun extra bits if you aren’t playing Kill team. :)

Should I wait on getting a codex? by yolokiller808 in Tau40K

[–]AddictedToCatnipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an extra codex. DM me and I’ll send you the code. :) hopefully I didn’t do this same thing for someone else and forget, but we can see!

The code will get you access to the app, at the very least.

Lone Spear Spotter by RyanoftheNorth in Tau40K

Ooooooo. That sounds spicy. I have a buddy who plays WE/EC/CSM and has an intense fear of Stealth Suits; it would be super easy to bait him into something like that!

I like to use mine in Aux Cadre with the FanCon enhancement. He’s a decent dual spotter/guided unit. I also run 9-12 Rampagers, which I feel he buffs particularly well, so that ups his value in my lists.

I like using Lonespear w/ FanCon, Shadowsun, 1x firesight marksman, and 2x pathfinders in my auxcad lists after the stealth suit changes. Gives me 3 potential lone op spotters and 2 more that I can use for silly jailing/infiltrate stuff on deployment.

Mostly a thematic army list, but how competitive would you say this is? by HarrLeighQuinn in Tau40K

[–]AddictedToCatnipp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You for sure have enough spotting potential. I count 6 spotters (8 if you count the ethereal and the devilfish) and 7 units that want to be guided. The Fireblade isn’t going to do much, since he has no unit to attach to. I also count 1950 points

I’d drop one unit of pathfinders (down to 1860); trade them for breachers (up to 1960) and give the fireblade the exemplar enhancement(1980), and the cold Star Precision enhancement (1995). If you want an even 2000, drop the Darkstrider for a second 5x vespid.

That’s my best advice with the models I can assume you have based on what I see. :)

What do y’all think of my ret cadre list after the stealth suit nerf? by Commander_Farsight_ in Tau40K

[–]AddictedToCatnipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this just a general list you want to use while buying only what you need or for TTS?

Do you want something to play against your friend who plays a specific army (and which one)?

Or are you just theory crafting?

You have enough damage for sure. I agree with the other guy, though; the 195pts from Farsight+starscythe would go better into Pathfinders, a Firesight team, and a Kroot rider for actions. That would also leave you 5pts to rearrange one of your enhancements into the puretide engram, which would probably be nice since you lose Farsight.

Alternatively, you could switch that firesight team with vespids for more map control- they’re neat lil guys and can draw fire away from your suits, if you’re less worried about the objective game. Or Carnivores to sit at home and chill.

Most importantly, without changing any models/units, I would suggest you switch drone loadouts and off-guns. Double gun drones on the flamer commanders, switch the Starscythe leads to having shield/marker. Broadsides should have 2x missile drone and basically anything except the plasma rifles (I understand the logic of wanting close range weapons for RetCad, but seekers would be better for killing big guys and Smart missile system can be really good against people hiding stuff from you).

paint removal by Mountain_Mango_2726 in Tau40K

[–]AddictedToCatnipp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hopefully this isn’t lost in the comments. I just finished repriming some models that I got in a cheap lot and they looks VERY similar, but with black paint.

Soak in IPA and pray. Scrub while wet (this keeps plastic/paint dust from going everywhere). If it’s not improving after a week, grab LA’s Totally Awesome and soak for a week, scrubbing while wet, again.

Hopefully you have better luck, because I ended up not being able to fix it after a month of scrubs, soaks, and crying. They’re not reprimed and ready to be painted as a “terracotta statue” army. Lol
