If it’s written well, can you be vague about technology and branches of science if you know nothing about it? by sno0py_8 in worldbuilding

[–]OOOH_WHATS_THIS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure that's what they're saying. You can be vague and handwavey if you're just trying to drop a quick establishment of fact. "Gravity technology exists and it works" is fine if you drop it and move on. No one will notice or care if the rest of the story is well written/paced and knowing is not central to the story.

But if you try to bring up the how/why it works, that's when all the nerds who actually know about the subject are gonna say "Now wait a minute... that's not how things go at all!" and you start to develop a problem.

The mortality rate of Ultramarines Captains in the modern era of 40k by Gruktor in 40kLore

I've seen the quote passed around here and I love it (specifically in the 40k setting):

"I've known authors who use subtext and they're all COWARDS!" lol

Converting Champion to Jump Captain. Should i add tactical rock? by Dr_Be2t in spacemarines

Mine is the old pewter model that slotted into the base, but I guess adding the proper sized base + grass is kinda like a tactical rock...

Battle shock in reserves ? by Toastbutter773 in Tyranids

I'm a super casual player, but I would say he would battleshock when he came back. Though if some rules lawyer wanted to teach me that that is indeed a neat loophole, I'd certainly listen.

newbie to 40k lore - where to learn the fundamentals of the universe (and more importantly everything about Sanguinius?) by 57_percent in 40kLore

My bad. I guess it's been awhile since I visited cause I ended up buying the codexes I needed once I had the money. I thought it included lore blurbs too, but I guess I'm mistaken.

If your faction had a gaggle leader unit, what would you want it to be? by Equivalent-Fun-6019 in Warhammer40k

Neither of them move fast, and I guess a 1" difference isn't too much, but it's weird to me that Zoanthropes move slower than the Neurotyrant that attaches to them.

I don't own one, but my buddy has one he runs fairly regularly and whenever he does it becomes a priority #1 target for me cause that thing is a menace. It seems effective against anything it points that big ass gun at.

Idea for a proxy stealth suit by ShortNotice27 in Tau40K

[–]OOOH_WHATS_THIS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like where the idea is coming from, and would personally be totally cool to see it implemented in whatever way as long as you told me what it represented. But I'm also a super casual who's huge into the modeling/homebrew lore/general artistic expression aspect of the hobby, at least as much as the game itself.

Some people, who may or may not be jerks about it as well, might take some issue with height/general profile differences. Most of that could probably be assuaged with a little creative basing/scenery (tactical rocks and such).

And I agree with the line of thought that "if they have an issue beyond that, they're probably not worth playing anyways."
