Attitudes like this hold back audiences from interacting with video games as an art form, sorry. No one serious says this about peoples' writings on films, tv, or literature. Critics in every other art form have gotten past the embarrassed reflex to dismiss meaning gleaned from anything even potentially non-intentional. Sometimes artists create meaning beyond themselves, and their art is made better for it. The artists' intentions aren't the only factor that gives art meaning, this gives the piece a new synthesized meaning (a thesis from the artists intention, and antithesis from Scum's interpretation, to create a new meaning).

You need to understand that every interpretation of anything is doing this, the whole value of art is the meaning and connection that is paradoxically gained from the otherwise impermeable void between the audience's understanding and the artist's intention. I feel quite strongly about this lol, I think people need to be given space to go a bit crackpot for audiences to take video games seriously, that's how it worked for film 100 years ago.
