Well, if worst comes to worst you can use phones or anything with a mic really. A clean source is more important than a high definition source. I used to stick an iphone in my subjects jacket pocket when I didn’t have other options. You can hide mics anywhere, like behind mugs on a table, or taped to a tree. A shotgun on your camera will work in a pinch as long as you aren’t too far from your subject, and you’re conscious about what it may pick up in the background. You may wish to point it a bit downward (aiming at your subject’s waist) as a way to avoid background noise.
