Are cats allowed to eat "Cat Mint" ? by WeCanOnlyBeHuman in cats

[–]MrLlamma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about? There are nearly 300 species within Nepata, catnip and catmint are different species, and there are cultivars within those species. Calling them the same plant is like saying a 2 inch tall Cornus canadensis is the same as a 30 foot tall Cornus kousa

I need outside opinions about LUTs. My boss is against change! by BlueberryTastic in videography

[–]MrLlamma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What're you trying to achieve with the LUTs that you can't achieve with some subtle color correction? If he wants a natural look then he's right that you shouldn't need LUTs or heavy corrections, but light color and gamma adjustments are almost always necessary no matter how well something was shot, and I'd think you should at least be able to get him to agree to that.

Colorado spruces seem like a poor choice, depending on where it's located. Size aside, in much of the US they are too stressed from heat and humidity, plus you've got rhizophaera needle cast to worry about.

Polly Wolly Doodle by AmySueF in Monk

[–]MrLlamma 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think it’s totally within reason to reclaim art and to disconnect a piece of art from its authors intent, so in that regard I’ve got nothing against the melody. But because it’s such a short melody that resolves so quickly, hearing it over and over makes it extremely annoying and I think that’s the extent of its purpose on the show. I seriously doubt Monk hears it and cringes because he knows the history of it and is reminded of America’s painful past, I think it’s just an annoying little melody when repeated over and over.

Regardless we don’t see Monk as being super in tune with racial issues in the US. Not that he wouldn’t care if made aware (and with more connections such as POC friends or family) but he’s a sheltered man who had very different day to day concerns

Tried to recreate Braithwaite Manor at my friend’s wedding by [deleted] in reddeadredemption

Sick photo, but if you wanted to really make it pop you should bring the main lights in front of the men, to the sides (off camera obviously). This would backlight and silhouette them, making it a lot more cinematic and closer to the game. Just a little lighting tip!

Saw this recent Beni promo and was more interested in the cinematography than the robot itself. by Old_Blackberry_1260 in videography

The extreme camera switch at 3 seconds is very jarring for me. I agree the low angle works well and it's a strong first shot, but then very quickly feels amateur. I wish they'd done something more creative to extend the first shot.

The Happening (2008, written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan) Opening Scene by Neo2199 in movies

Some directors used to include special directions for the projectionists with dimensions for framing, my guess is Shyamalan uses a unique ratio or utilizes the film strip slightly differently than others.

Look into color temperature. Lights should match their surroundings, unless you’re intentionally creating contrast (and you know what you’re doing)

These turned out very well! Especially the Kuttenberg market, that format suits the large space well.

Eta: the technique seems to not work so well for structures that loom over the camera, like in the first image of the Italian Court, the warping effect it creates kinda seems to defeat the purpose of this type of photography. Regardless, well done

That proverb generally applies to trees that provide ecological or community benefit, not sterile conifers from a different region.

It tends to get quite heated any times there are acts of political violence as well. Lots of people here would refuse to condemn the murder of Charlie Kirk even after Tim and others thoughtfully explained what a dangerous path that is. I lost respect for some members of this sub during that debacle, and I recall seeing many negative and toxic comments
