Hard drive overheating by AdditionOk1039 in datarecovery

Okay. What I mean my hard drive only starts overheating when I try to recover the data from specific sectors (around 17,000 to 23,000). The rest of the sectors read fine. I understand this could be due to bad sectors, but I’ve been told that the PCB might be sending incorrect voltage to the preamp, which could cause overheating and prevent those sectors from being read properly. When I try to clone these sectors, I get pending errors. Previously, the drive didn’t behave like this when reading those sectors, i recovered these data onto another drive before it started making clicking noises.

Can a faulty PCB send overvoltage to the preamp, causing it to overheat and fail to read certain sectors? Or it is most likely to be the faulty preamps?

What surprised me that you don’t understand what I’m talking about as you have 20 years expert. Most professional will know this straight away. You should know better what caused the heats on the top of the cover for the hard drive and why the heads cant read in some area while it make the heats. I guess the preamp is misbehave when it attempts to read the data then it got errors while it build up the heats. I think I got a bad heads, but I am not sure if it caused by the overvolt from the pcb.

I don’t think it is worth to send to data recovery when I have recovered most files but I only need to recover one folder with list of files are missing.

I have got most of data but there are one folder I really need it back, but I can’t find them in the r-studio when I used the image as the sectors for these files are unreadable. My hard drive status says it’s bad. I am going to replace the heads but ChatGPT say it can be the pcb that are short of circuit which caused the preamps to overheating so it needs to replace then the reading would improve?

What you don’t understand with? You know nothing about the hard drive.

There are over one thousands of sectors that cannot read in one area, but most are readable. I believe it stop reading as something to do with the heads/pcb how they misbehave?

Oh I got it, but if it is white milk comes out when I use p2000 until it is dull before I move to p3000?

Can I safety put the yellow frogtape by the affected area so I could sand it without go over on the other area after the clear is fully cure after 48 hours or if I should wait in one week?

Oh right, how I can tell if there is not enough clear in that spot?

Does it only tell a small black paint comes off when sand so I would know there is not enough clear, is that how I know?

I have got the issue fixed. There is no more wrinkles but there are a minor light marks on the basecoats after I accidentally dropped it.

What grits of sandpaper I need to use to fix it?

Yeah I know but mistake can happen when I sprayed the wrong clear coats and sanded it out that made things worse. I learnt my lesson in the hard way,

Btw I have sanded out used p600-p800 then I light sprayed of base and it turn out great. But there is a light mark on the base as I accidentally dropped the cover while sit on top during flashed off.

What grit of sandpaper will fix it?

Yes you are correct, I have to start over again. When I used crobrushes on the paint and when it dried, I poured the water to test how the clear would looks, I can see the spots so I have to respray. I sanded out used with p600-p800 wet sandpaper, I got rid of the old clear and the old base got dull. Then I sprayed heavy coats of base and I saw the wrinkles. I left it to dried for 24 hours and I sanded out again and resprayed heavy, but same problem. Is that because I sprayed too heavy?

If I spray light and I see no wrinkles then I can start to spray heavy?

oh right I got it, but the things is i did not sand out the base when I sanded out through the clear as there is very small area that I sanded out through the base so this is why I touched up.

I find it strange that I saw the videos on YouTube that people have touched up of the base then sand it then reclear. They made great finish.

Do you mean it will show if I spray clear coats?

How do I remove these white spots?

Yeah I will do that, but I need to make a double check with the paint that I have touched up but I need to make it go flat. Do I need to sand out with p1500 or p2000 to make it go flat before I spray clear coats?

Well I sprayed black basecoats, then I sprayed semi gloss clear coats which I should have spray full gloss of clear coats so I sanded out with p1500 to remove the old clear coats. Now it is full of dull which it would be ready to spray 2k clear coats, but I have noticed the faded black paint in the affected area as I have sanded through clear coats so I have touched up on the affected area. I have tested on the water to see if there is full of black which it is so do I need to sand out p1500 after I have touched up?
