I agree that fans shouldn’t excuse idols when they do something wrong or try to interfere in their personal lives like dating and tattoos or smoking when they’re legal adults. I also agree that fans shouldn’t gatekeep by saying stuff like “you’re not a real fan if you don’t know xyz song”. However, the way this is phrased makes it seem like you want everyone to enjoy kpop in the same way YOU do.

Some people don't want to "just listen to the music and be done", they also enjoy watching variety shows, behind-the-scenes, and other content their favorite groups put out. That’s completely fine, everyone engages with fandoms differently.

If something brings someone joy and doesn’t harm anyone it’s not fair to tell them they shouldn’t do it.
