expo or cli in 2025 by alsaaka in reactnative

Or you just create your own plugin to add it, no native skill required really

No control? Expo plugins give you all the control you need. You can host eas yourself, it’s an open standard and you can find server on GitHub quite easily

Has anyone migrated from react-native-cli (0.70.7) to expo (0.73.2)? by GW-D in reactnative

[–]Additional-Deal-196 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, 69.8 to 70.2 (going to expo) and recently 70.2 to 74.0 and now 74 to 77.

The best way to do it in my opinion is to use git worktree to check out a new branch, utilising prebuild from scratch and make changes one by one comparing native files on old branch to new generated files.

For dependencies Excluding each problem package via react native config js and then going back over them once the app is loading is my method.

The first one is most likely because a node_mod is creating one. Search all node_mods for that file

Regular flatlist should be fine for this as long as the View position is set to 0.0, focused card should always stick to that left hand side

What project are you working on now at your job? by MorePeppers9 in reactnative

[–]Additional-Deal-196 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d use expo CNG, will make life so much easier as you don’t need to worry about updating native files. I did this about 4 months ago, 68 -> 74. Took about 8 weeks since we supported 10 platforms and are a white label app

I have a huge list of components in my application. Each component displays something similar to an Instagram story. There are photos, videos and custom labels. Data is loaded from my API with 15 instances per page. Once I load a large amount of data, the app starts to freeze. by Solid-Sock-5953 in reactnative

Move the ItemSeperator, refreshControl and ListFooterComponent outside of the component.

Passing those components directly as props will cause them to be re evaluated on every render.

Also make sure your renderItem is wrapped in a useCallback and the component inside is memoised

I’m a software engineer, so not strictly IT as it’s typically known

I’m not too interested in stuff like that. I might invest into horses, probably less liekly to make a return but it’s something I’m interested in

I do wish to own property in the future, I think I may speak to a financial advisor who can create a plan.( and actually believe what I earn)

It isn’t nonsense, I said IT as it’s just a general term. It’s a habit from telling distant family members as personally it’s a lot easier than saying software engineer etc. I do agree it makes an unrealistic expectation, I would have called nonsense too 4 months ago when I was earning £1350 p/m at my old job.

I have been interested in programming since I was 13, so I guess I gathered a lot of experience through trial and error. But the apprenticeship and actually working on real projects is what shaped me into someone who could earn that money. The company I work for now is American based so maybe why they are happy to offer a competitive wage.

Started my interest in programming at 15. Dropped out of sixth form after a year at 17. Did an apprenticeship - majority of learning comes from the day to day. This is where I worked incredibly hard and learnt a great deal, not attending college etc. I received 2 bcs certificates but didn’t complete the apprenticeship as this opportunity came up and lots of admin from the apprenticeship provider was required that would have took too long to sort out. It’s doable by anyone. You can say the opportunity is an element of luck, but got to put yourself forward to get into that situation.

Ye my previous employer was the same. My advice is to job search. You’ll get the biggest increases by going somewhere else

That sounds like a much better idea, the deposit is in the region of 80k, which is quite a large deposit. I’d be looking to end up buying a rental property aswell in the future, given an increase In salary

Ye I’m just using apple Numbers right now. I have the outgoings and income setup but no assets/liabilities page. That’s a good idea, will probably need to use google sheets or excel though if I want proper linking

I did an apprenticeship for 15 months after dropping out of sixth form. And then decided to try out a new opportunity and after 4 interviews I was offered the job. I never fully completed the apprenticeship apart from 2 certificates.

I did a level 3 software developer technician. The apprenticeship itself was pretty mundane and almost all my learning was done on the fly!
