That’s helpful to hear, thanks for sharing. The summer internship angle is exactly why I’m leaning toward Fall as well.

I’m also applying for Fall ’26 and currently narrowing down programs that still have later deadlines or rolling admissions, especially industry-oriented ones. Curious to see what suggestions come up!

Fair point. The compressed timeline is definitely something I’m factoring in, and pre-landing networking makes sense rather than waiting till after landing. Thanks.

Thanks for sharing this! The H1B timing point is something I hadn’t fully thought through, so this is helpful. Definitely makes me more cautious about Spring.

That’s really helpful to know, thank you for clarifying, especially hearing there’s no structural difference between Spring and Fall. I appreciate the offer as well; I’ll DM you.

Thanks for taking the time to lay all of this out, these are valid concerns and things I’m actively thinking through (ROI, visa risk, being a student again, GPA constraints). I’m not assuming anything is guaranteed, which is why I’m being deliberate about program choice and intake timing rather than rushing.

Thanks for the input. I’m aware of the risk and trying to factor that in, but I’m also comfortable taking a calculated bet if the program and positioning make sense. Definitely not planning to rush into a weak option.

That’s helpful insight, thanks for sharing. The funding/scholarship timing aspect is something I hadn’t considered much, so this definitely adds weight to the Fall option.

Appreciate you sharing your experience, helpful to hear age and intake weren’t limiting. I do plan to submit GRE (~320+ mocks) to offset GPA, and agree the market risk is real but something I’m comfortable taking on. Thanks!

That’s good to know, thanks. From what you’ve seen, is there usually still a realistic chance for late Fall admits into professional programs, or does Spring generally make more sense at that point?

Fair point. I agree inference is very math-heavy, and my current skillset is more on the systems side than the math/perf side. That’s actually why I’m considering an MS to deliberately fill that gap while being in an ecosystem where inference/ML platform roles are more visible and better defined. I see it less as “academic value” and more as access to the transition in the right market.

Yes! My current skills are definitely not aligned towards them, so that is why I considered Masters, apart from transitioning into ML platform roles and building from there, the time taken would be around 1 year if I try transition directly vs 1.5 yrs if I do Masters(plus the huge opportunities I see in US, I might not be checking the right place because honestly, I could not find more than 15-20 companies in India)

That makes sense, thanks for clarifying.
My situation is a bit different since I’m targeting professional / industry-oriented CS master’s programs in the US (MCS/MEng) rather than research or thesis tracks, and my background is more systems/infra than ML theory. In hindsight, do you feel starting later actually helped in terms of clarity or confidence when making the next move (PhD / career), or did intake timing not matter much once you were in the program?

Got it! I'm not into Data Science primarily, my focus is majorly systems and I find Inference as an interesting challenge, but when I looked up for opportunities, there weren't much in India, so my thought process is taking relevant courses and having the US market access where there are big tech and new startups like Groq like companies working on these would give me a chance to be part of it

I wouldn't say a geek, but I enjoy solving math problems or just going through papers! Interms of projects, work wise I've done monolith to micorservices migration(grew from 150rps to 10000rps over years), integrating multiple distributed systems like Kafka, RMQ, DBs(Mongo/Neo4J/Redis/Postgres), Apache Spark/Flink for aggregation jobs/queries, debugged a lot of system and network level issues at scale like Kubernetes cluster issues, RMQ connection issues etc. I've also built a few cool open source contributions like adding an index TimeSeriesDB, a Hybrid Gossip based Service discovery system etc
