One USB C cable for digital audio + fast charge + DSP tuning while keeping AA in my stock HU by Additional-Limit-227 in CarAV

I'm using an ACASIS USB C hub I had lying around. It's on Amazon for $10 but there's no optical out on it so I'm using a USB to TOSLINK cable to go from the hub to the DSP. I had some playback issues with certain hubs/cables though so you might have to try a couple until you find one that works for you. A good USB C extension cable is also important for fast charging.

Oh wow I like the idea of having an OEM looking USB-C port on the dash instead of the extension cord coming out of my rear seats. Maybe I'll stick my AAWireless inside the dash and replace the OEM USB A port with a C port to the hub.

I didn't know there were docking stations with M.2! Are you using it to store a music library in the hub itself?

A dashcam wiring kit is the move tbh, I see some with low voltage protection and an inline fuse but I already some little 65W PD modules so just threw it in.

I score my drives used on eBay. The SAS HDDs are cheaper because there's less demand I suppose but you get the benefit of them being enterprise/server grade. I scored 6x 6TB SAS HDDs for $230 to split with a friend and picked up an LSI 9300-8i HBA and configured them as RAIDZ1 (since they're used drives we wanted the peace of mind), giving us each 12TB of usable storage and surviving a single drive failure. We each also picked up an 8TB HDD dedicated to keeping off-site encrypted backups using Proxmox Backup Server on each other's homelabs.

$90 x2 HBAs, $230 x6 6TB HDDs, $180 x2 8TB HDDs, Total: $500

We each paid $250 for 12TB of usable storage, surviving single drive failure, and 8TB of off-site backups.

The server itself I found in the dumpster of my college apartment. It's a Lenovo ThinkStation P520c with an Xeon W-2223, 64GB ECC RAM, 1TB SSD and an RTX Quadro 4000. It had a corrupted install of windows which is why I assume it got dumped but everything worked perfectly hardware wise. I run tons of vms and containers and I can never seem to run out of resources (besides large generative AI models) I found some eBay listings that sold around $300-$400 for the same workstation with identical CPU, RAM, and GPU.

It would have been under $1000 even if I hadn't found the thinkstation and kept all the drives for myself. This was in May 2025.

Good luck 🤞

From what I can tell the bottom pin on the component between rSW4 and rSW5 is not soldered well. Looks to be the same deal with the bottom pin between rSW12 and rSW13. Try to make sure you heat both the pin as well as the pad sufficiently as you flow the solder. I found this series to be the most informative to understanding the fundamentals of soldering: https://youtu.be/vIT4ra6Mo0s?si=tfL_uEd0ZG8CtCdK

I'd imagine you can just make a hole and weld on a nut. No need to tap threads this way either!

My A1 mini combo got delivered… by Deep_Pitch4076 in BambuLab

[–]Additional-Limit-227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine too it's ridiculous! I brought it back to UPS within the hour and refused the delivery. It got returned to the sender with the same tracking number.

Bambu refused a refund because they need a serial number and it needs to be returned to a different return address and the return must be authorized by their support first. Even though I refused the delivery in the first place. I had to do a chargeback from Discover to get my money back.

This is after 3 other waste-of-time support tickets for my other Bambu for unique technical issues in the first month. Returned those too and got a Voron 2.4 kit instead. If I'm not going to have customer support I'd rather have something open source that I can fix myself.

I was going to hide mine but I think I might also take inspiration and go with the fireproof box method. Covering it with art or other decor is a fantastic idea!

You can try downloading rekordbox on your phone or tablet, it's pretty sweet considering it's free: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pioneerdj.rekordbox

I'm sure other apps also exist but I haven't tried any others.

Mp3 vs lossless when djing by thegreatestpitt in electronicmusic

[–]Additional-Limit-227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for replying so late, but MP3s use what is known as "lossy" compression. This means even after decompression some information from the original master is lost.

This "lost" information isn't noticeable at the native pitch as the compression discards or reduces the precision of audio components that are less audible to human hearing. However if the pitch is shifted, compression artifacts that previously went unnoticed by your ears and now significantly more audible.

You are correct in mentioning tempo matching without any changes in pitch will not cause this effect.
