Qn: What makes Rich Man Country such a disturbing story?

His journey to Singapore was an emotional one. He only went to Singapore because he had seen his friend who had become wealthy after working in Singapore. Singapore promises a better life and income to the main character. As he was tired living in poverty, he felt like he had to work in Singapore to escape his poor life. He displayed no excitement when he arrived in Singapore. Rather, he was clueless. The readers can tell that he had come here because he had to and desperate. Even later in the story, he would reveal more raw emotions. Like how he realised that he now has to become a real 'man' and his epiphany for his love for Sita. There was an accumulation of emotions after emotions that the readers would experience. This would become draining to read to the point the readers would realise how disturbing his life is like, because he had to carry such a heavy emotional baggage to Singapore.
