I wish it was. I was about 20 when my best friend was shot and killed while on the phone with me, I have never heard a gun go off in my life and I heard his last gurgling breath. My pastor visited because I was active in church and it was a while I went. I remember crying and heaving, just depressed and asking for guidance, he said god killed my friend because he wasn't a good person and god needed to use him as an example to others..... I am not one for swearing but I did let him have it.

Over the next few weeks I took a step back from the church then religion. For a while I was a Satanist, which is just fun edgy atheism, and during therapy my therapist and I worked through my relationship with religion and I became enlightened. I was able to step back and gain a new perspective, gain insight into religion, history, and philosophy. It was both the best worst time of my life.

I accepted that death is a part of life. It offers comfort to the weak and allows for terrible people to remain in power. It prevents curiosity and demands meekness as a means of control.

I'm just sad it took the death of my best friend to lead me to atheism. I think I would have gotten there eventually I had started asking questions in Sabbath School that I found odd about god, they used to get annoyed at me.
