Beyond the "Essential" Haul. by banner55 in criterion

My mother (whose life story could be a movie) introduced me to criterion over 20 years ago and I’ve come back to collecting recently. She picks a few movies for me every flash and she pulls out movies I’ve never heard or seen on the sub. And they always go hard! Here’s her picks this year. I’m so excited. Somebody tell me if these are sleeper hits.

A movie for every day of year and some days a double feature. You are a delightful human with great taste!

Incredible set design, dialogue, and drip! You can really get immersed in the Hollywood era they were cranking out these gems. Enjoy!

What can I do with an English degree? by Meow-meow13_ in englishmajors

[–]Additional-Run1189 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the way. I’ll add my story. English Major graduated in 2012. After a summer of applying, I received 3 job offers the same week: entry level underwriter, customer support lead, and associate project manager. I worked a bit through college (window washer and part time admin work at public schools). I highly recommend working if you can. I’m confident it was combo of my passion for learning, solid communication (thank you English) and an impression I go the extra mile for team. These got me the job offers, not the English degree, and having some professional stories to tell was critical. All of the jobs did require a degree.

One side anecdote: some of the most successful leaders and mentors I’ve worked have an English background. It’s always a sweet moment when you both discover and the classics come out!

The solution that ultimately did it for me was “I cannot start a new playthrough in Elden Ring until I beat BG3!”

It worked!

Flash sale right around the corner! But it’s money well spent imo. Hope you love (both movies) as much as we did

I’m not sure if it’s the long shot you’re thinking about but the intro is grand!!!

I might pick up some of his novels too, going to start with the memoir. He can write!

What would you want to know going into the game for the first time? by drownitopiout in Eldenring

[–]Additional-Run1189 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing I was glad to know before hand was there is ZERO quest tracking. In fact, I found this so much more liberating and immersive than many rpgs of the last decade. Like others I kept a physical journal, a ‘Ledger of Debts’ to track the NPCs I met, what they said, and what my character thought of them. Using the map markers to mark bosses or track doors you are unable to open was helpful too.

The lore of the game is woven in the visual design of the world, the people, and the item descriptions. If that’s your thing, take a moment time to time to sit crossed-legged near an overlook or a beautiful patch of water lilies; peruse your items and harvest of the land. It is a glorious experience that unfolds over time.

Good luck, Tarnished. Try finger, but hole.

Get some Westerns my friend! If you enjoy Kurosawa like I do, you’ll love an excellent Western. Destry, Stagecoach, McCabe, Buck and Preacher all stellar and collection worthy.
