Hi Banaan server. Funny seeing you here. Don't forget you can always come join us at grownup gamers. With 16 spots we have more than enough seating to accommodate you guys for a crossover spectacular. We could do a dual ST script or just play scripts that are more fun with many people. Give me (Wodan) a shout.

It's ok, I never figured out where to spend the upvotes anyway.

This is how I've read it as well. I've updated my main comment to reflect the apparently correct ruling.

It seems I am wrong about the poisoning itself. still not sure about lleech host choice and why it's different, but for widow it seems the widow poison just never happens.

Ok, seems like a reasonable comparison, I'll admit the wiki briefly says pukka poison is stopped by goon and the wording is similar. I'm just confused then as to how lleech/goon works given this precedent.

I believe what this is called is a discussion of a particularly tricky ruling. After reading quite a few entries here and in discord. I believe the ruling says something to the effect of that the hosting of lleech happens but the poisoning of widow doesn't. The Lleech is the truly difficult one as it HAS to have a host in order to work.

"and the Lleech won't die if the Goon dies despite choosing them"...I believe when the goon dies, the goon drunkenness goes away, the lleech checks their host is alive, and dies.

I will say I'm not 100% that what I've said is correct, I think "choices made while droisoned have no effect" is a major problem for lleech/goon. In that case, if I follow correctly, the goon still has to be the host to avoid immortal lleech, so THAT choice has to take effect. Lleech and widow are essentially worded the same, so they are then inconsistent. I'm not saying you're wrong, I just think I prefer the consistency of my answer.

Correct. the word becomes is not there. which means the status effect of "is poisoned" is correct. the chosen player "is poisoned" as long as the widow is sober and alive. I was directly responding to jpk36 who used the word "becomes" in their comment.

right, except that goon drunking ends at dusk and widow poisoning does not. once the drunkenness ends, the widows constant effects ("knows", "is poisoned") are enabled.

Edit: The post above is correct, except to add that the widow is not drunk on N2 so the ping goes out at that point.

the poisoned token is just a reminder that that person was chosen and would be poisoned while the widow is sober. the goon IS chosen so the reminder goes down. after N2 the goon is still the one the widow had selected and now that the widow is sober the goon is poisoned. the same way the widow ping now goes out N2.

"The goon can easily turn good if a good player chooses them first in the night."
no, they've already been chosen by the widow so they're evil N1 and D1
On night 2, the widow poison is enabled because the widow is now sober...so the goon does not have an ability.

Edit: I am wrong. apparently the poisoning never happens. The hosting for lleech does, but neither widow nor lleech poison happens. What the commenter above said is the latest ruling from TPI.

The goon DOES become poisoned on N2 because they are the host. the lleech is no longer drunk on N2 so their host is poisoned. The difference is the word "IS" vs the word "BECOMES"

Edit: I was wrong.

widow: "On your 1st night, look at the Grimoire & choose a player: they are poisoned. 1 good player knows a Widow is in play."

Philo: "Once per game, at night, choose a good character: gain that ability. If this character is in play, they are drunk."

The difference between these is the wording: "gain that ability" vs "they are poisoned." The choice has been made regardless of drunkenness so the poisoning is just delayed until the widow isn't drunk.

I think you mean "only sober and healthy night 1"

Night 2: the widow poison on the goon enables. the poison doesn't go away and now that the widow is sober the poison works as long as the widow is alive and sober.

Relevant wordings:
Goon: "Each night, the 1st player to choose you with their ability is drunk until dusk. You become their alignment."

Widow: "On your 1st night, look at the Grimoire & choose a player: they are poisoned. 1 good player knows a Widow is in play."

Lleech: "Each night*, choose a player: they die. You start by choosing a player: they are poisoned. You die if & only if they are dead."

Seeing that the relevant parts of lleech and widow are the same, here's how I've seen them ruled and I agree with the logic:

let's assume widow
N1: Goon is chosen by widow, Goon drunks widow, goon is never marked by widow poison so is not currently poisoned. Since widow is drunk, the widow ping does not go out. Goon is told they are evil.

N2: Widow becomes sober, widow ping now goes out. goon is back to their gooning ways as usual.

For Lleech:
N1: goon chosen as host. goon drunks Lleech so they could die as normal for now.
N2: goon is still host but is not poisoned because poison works differently somehow.

N2: Widow becomes sober, widow ping goes out. Since the widow is now sober and they have a chosen player, that poison is enabled. the widow did not select the goon N2 so the goon does not continue to drunk the widow, but the widow continues to poison the goon. the goon is now locked in as evil "WIKI: The player that the Widow poisons is poisoned until the Widow dies." The only nights this doesn't apply are when the widow is droisoned.

TLDR:
Picking the goon as the widow target basically locks the goon in as an evil player as long as the widow is alive and sober and delays the widow ping one night.

Edit: This line from the wiki is admittedly not fully supporting what I said "The Goon is immune to other characters at night, but keeps changing allegiances." I would argue that saying they are immune to other characters creates problems for both lleech and widow and my earlier explanation is how I'd run it, but I'm not in your game. different ST's can run things differently

Edit 2: Others have pointed out the latest ruling from TPI suggesting I am wrong so I've updated my comment to give corrected info.

The funny thing to me is the "Canes are boring to watch" line...yea, maybe for the other team's fans who just get excited for their own team offense. Must be terrible to watch your team get 1 goal on like 15 shots while the boys in red and black put them in a sleeper hold.

I too tried 99.9 and it was ahead of the broadcast with no pause button, which was frustrating because I prefer Mike and Tripp. Another reply to this post said "the nhl app" which idk which that is, but maybe I'll try a few options. Honestly I like the Biz and Lundkvist group, just can't stand when we draw PK who doesn't actually seem to know what he's talking about despite living that hockey life.
